3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Friday 8/25/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Cole Irvin, P, Baltimore Orioles ($6,200)

No one would confuse Cole Irvin for Randy Johnson, but he has some things working in his favor tonight.

Irvin has some respectable numbers, such as a 20.5% strikeout rate and a 4.47 SIERA. These certainly won't win him any awards, but it's enough to be effective against some of the weaker hitting teams in baseball.

The Colorado Rockies can certainly be categorized as that and especially against left-handed pitching. They have a horrendous .276 wOBA and 56 wRC+ against lefties this season. They also strike out 29.0% of the time, by far the most in the MLB.

The Baltimore Orioles are the biggest favorite on the slate, according to the MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. You can get a win for a low salary if you roster Irvin, who is the best points-per-dollar play in numberFire's projections today.

Max Kepler, OF, Minnesota Twins ($2,800)

Max Kepler is a fairly underrated power hitter who's in a pretty good situation tonight.

Kepler has been squaring the ball up this season with a 12.7% barrel percentage and a 46.0% hard-hit rate. Facing righties this season, he has a solid .336 wOBA and .237 ISO, too.

He'll face off against Dane Dunning for the Texas Rangers tonight. Dunning is not a bad pitcher by any means, but he has not been as effective against lefty batters. He's allowed a .330 wOBA to lefties and strikes them out just 16.0% of the time.

Kepler should hit right in the middle of the Minnesota Twins' lineup and definitely can do some damage tonight for an affordable salary.

J.P. Crawford, SS, Seattle Mariners ($2,700)

The Seattle Mariners are red hot and climbing up the standings. J.P. Crawford may not be the biggest name on their team, but he's definitely a good value tonight.

Crawford has been mashing right-handed pitching this season. He has a .372 wOBA and a 144 wRC+ in this split.

He'll face Brady Singer tonight, who's sporting a 4.79 expected ERA (xERA) and is having a pretty mediocre season as a whole. Against lefties, Singer has allowed a .326 wOBA and a .180 ISO this season.

Crawford should hit leadoff in a lineup with a 4.70 implied team total tonight. He's a nice play as part of a Mariners stack that's pretty affordable overall.
