3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target for Wednesday 9/13/23

Hitting on value plays in MLB DFS on FanDuel can make or break a lineup on any given day, but locking in strong performances with some of baseball's star players provides the backbone for any good DFS lineup.

These stars rightly come with high salaries as they usually live up to expectations and have the ability to outclass their peers at their position.

Here are three studs to target for Wednesday's main slate.

All advanced statistics come from FanGraphs. All projections via numberFire.

Zac Gallen, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks ($10,600)

Taking the ball for his 31st start of the season, Zac Gallen is set for a midweek date in Queens. Going against the New York Mets, the Arizona Diamondbacks have split the first two games in the Big Apple with two more to play.

Gallen is in the first All-Star campaign of his career. Throughout the year, he has stayed near the top of the 2023 NL Cy Young odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, currently showing the third-shortest price to win the award (+750).

Behind a 3.65 SIERA on the season, Gallen has produced a 15-7 overall record. Ultimately, he's performed with efficiency and consistency, allowing just 0.96 home runs per 9 innings.

Additionally, Gallen is coming off one of his most dominant performances. Last Friday, he threw a complete game against the Chicago Cubs, striking out nine hitters in a winning effort.

On Wednesday, Gallen is projected to produce a FanDuel score of 36.5 points, per numberFire. That is the second-highest figure among all arms on the main slate.

Yordan Alvarez, OF, Houston Astros ($4,100)

The 2019 AL Rookie of the Year is still impressing offensively in Year Five. Yordan Alvarez has already won a ring with the Houston Astros, and he is hitting the ball like he has aspirations for more.

After finishing third in MVP voting last season, Alvarez has not missed a beat in 2023. His xwOBA is at .435 right now while also yielding a booming Statcast hard-hit rate of 52%.

Tonight, he'll be in a familiar matchup at home against the Oakland Athletics.

When glancing at Alvarez's nightly projection on numberFire, he shows a figure of 13.8 FanDuel points, which is the best number of all outfielders on Wednesday not named Ronald Acuna Jr.

However, my confidence in Alvarez is amplified when considering that he is facing right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn this evening. With a platoon advantage, Alvarez has already homered off Blackburn 3 times in just 12 career head-to-head at-bats.

Rafael Devers, 3B, Boston Red Sox ($3,800)

The Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees historic rivalry may not be at its best form in 2023, but it still makes for entertaining baseball during the week. New York won both ends of last night's doubleheader at Fenway Park. On Wednesday, Rafael Devers is a productive player to roster in this classic AL East clash.

Yesterday, Devers launched a home run in the first game before resting in the later contest (although he drew a walk in a pinch-hit appearance). This season, he is sporting the second-best OPS (.851) on an offensively potent Boston side. Additionally, Devers falls within the top 10 for RBI (94).

Against the archrival Yanks and righty Clarke Schmidt (4.54 ERA), numberFire estimates a quality performance from Devers tonight. His projection shows 12.9 points on FanDuel, which should absolutely warrant rostering consideration.

Keep in mind: Devers is home at hitter-friendly Fenway tonight. After Coors Field, Fenway Park has had the highest park factor (109) over the past three seasons, according to Baseball Savant.
