3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target for Wednesday 6/28/23
In daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel, rostering the right high-salaried studs is an important aspect of building lineups.
For hitters, we're looking for guys with big numbers, strong matchups, and players around them who are likely to produce, as well, increasing our chances for runs and RBI. For pitchers, we want big strikeout numbers, while the ability to go deep in a game and pick up a win is also valuable.
With these high-salary picks playing such a big role in your lineup, you can't afford to miss on these guys, so let's take a look at a few top high-salary plays for today's main slate.
Blake Snell, P, San Diego Padres ($11,100)
Blake Snell has been on a roll of late. He has at least 40 FanDuel points in each of his last five games and at least 50 in four straight.
Snell's recent run has seen his strikeout rate get back above 30.0%, a bar he's cleared in every season since 2017. He's also up to a 14.4% swinging-strike rate, which is fifth-best in baseball. His skill interactive ERA (SIERA) is down to 3.85, and we should like him headed into tonight.
The San Diego Padres take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh. The Pirates have struggled lately and are prone to striking out against lefties. They have a 22.3% K rate in the split this season.
The Pirates have an implied team total of 3.90 runs, the third-lowest total on the slate, and Snell projects as the night's top arm, with numberFire's model forecasting him to score a slate-high 35.5 FanDuel points.
A word of warning: make sure this game plays before locking in Snell. Air quality is an issue.
Mookie Betts OF/2B/SS, Los Angeles Dodgers ($4,500)
It's hard to imagine a better spot for a team than what the Los Angeles Dodgers and Mookie Betts are in today.
The Dodgers are in Coors Field tonight and facing lefty Kyle Freeland. Freeland strikes out just 14.6% of batters and has an expected ERA (xERA) of 5.12.
Meanwhile, Mookie has been crushing the ball. He has the highest average exit velocity of his career, and the second-highest barrel percentage of his career (11.0%). He has a solid weighted on-base average (wOBA) at .365, but his expected wOBA (xwOBA) is .383, so continuing to hit the ball hard should lead to some positive regression.
Betts will likely bat leadoff for the Dodgers, making him a no-brainer on tonight's slate. He is the highest-projected hitter, according to numberFire's model. If building cash-game lineups tonight, you shouldn't make one without him.
Shohei Ohtani, OF, Los Angeles Angels ($4,400)
The Dodgers dominate the best options at hitter tonight, but if you want to get a little different, you can look to another LA squad.
Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs last night while also dominating on the mound. He'll be focusing on only hitting, and he's done a good job when doing that. He's currently sporting a .431 wOBA and a .350 isolated slugging percentage (ISO) in 2023.
The Los Angeles Angels have a matchup against the Chicago White Sox and Lucas Giolito. Giolito has allowed a ton of fly balls this season, as batted balls are in the air 47.7% of the time against him. He's also allowing the highest barrel percentage of his career at 9.8%, which is a recipe to allow some home runs.
Ohtani is on a tear of late and carries the highest hitter projection for any non-Dodger. He makes for a great play in all formats.
