3 Fantasy Football Sleepers for NFL Week 4

Week 4 NFL Sleepers in Summary

  • Jalon Daniels, QB, Buccaneers
  • Brenton Strange, TE, Jaguars
  • Isaac TeSlaa, WR, Lions

Every fantasy football week presents new opportunities to uncover value, and some of the best options aren't always the biggest names. Whether it's a favorable matchup, an expanded role, an injury creating opportunity or a player showing signs of a breakout, the fantasy landscape can change quickly from one week to the next.

With that in mind, here are some fantasy football sleepers to consider for this week. These players may not be automatic starts in every league, but each has a combination of opportunity and upside that makes them worth a closer look for the week ahead.

We'll reference our NFL projections. All NFL odds come from FanDuel Sportsbook and may change after this article is published.

Best Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 4

Jalon Daniels, QB, Buccaneers

Jalon Daniels - Passing Yds

Oct 4 5:01pm UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

Undrafted rookie signal-caller Jalon Daniels is going to start this week for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and while we obviously shouldn’t expect too much, I’m intrigued.

Part of it is the matchup. The Bucs are at home against the Green Bay Packers. The last time we saw Green Bay was Week 3 TNF, and they were getting torched by the Falcons, allowing 35 points and 498 total yards.

Daniels’ rushing ability gives him some immediate fantasy appeal. He is listed at -188 odds to run for at least 30 yards, and he rushed for at least 400 yards in each of his last two college seasons.

Daniels impressed enough in training camp and the preseason to earn Tampa’s QB2 job, which says a lot considering he was undrafted. Given his running ability and the matchup, Daniels is a viable Week 4 starter in superflex formats.

Brenton Strange, TE, Jaguars

Brenton Strange - Receiving Yds

Oct 4 5:01pm UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

Brenton Strange checks a few boxes this week.

The matchup is a great one. Strange and the Jacksonville Jaguars play at the Cincinnati Bengals in a game with a high total (51.5) and close spread (2.5), setting the stage for a shootout.

But it’s not just the shootout potential that makes it a friendly spot for Strange — the Bengals have struggled against TEs. Through three weeks, Cincy has surrendered the second-most receiving yards per game to tight ends (99.7).

Although there are a few mouths to feed in the Jags’ passing game, Strange has a nice role, logging snap rates of 77% and 83% the last two games. He handled five targets last week and has found the end zone once already this campaign.

With a sublime matchup in a game that should have plenty of fireworks, Strange is capable of producing a big outing.

Isaac TeSlaa, WR, Lions

Any Time Touchdown Scorer

I am very bullish on the Detroit Lions‘ passing game this week, which puts Isaac TeSlaa on my sleeper radar.

The Lions play at the Carolina Panthers on SNF. Carolina will be without both of its starting corners, and the Lions are showing -111 odds to go over 27.5 points. Even with their starting corners, the Panthers would have trouble slowing a high-powered Detroit offense, but without Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, it’s going to be a really tough task.

TeSlaa is rarely high on the Lions’ pass-game pecking order. However, he’s played at least 68% of the snaps in two of their three games thus far, and he’s hauled in five of six targets for 92 yards. He’ll need a touchdown or some chunk gains to truly pop in fantasy this week, and I think he can deliver against Carolina’s short-handed secondary.

Fantasy Football Sleepers FAQ

What is a fantasy football sleeper for this week?

A fantasy football sleeper for this week is a player who isn't widely viewed as a must-start but has a favorable combination of matchup, opportunity and recent production that could lead to a strong fantasy performance.

How do you identify fantasy football sleepers each week?

We look at factors such as recent usage, snap counts, targets, touches, red-zone opportunities, injuries and the player's individual matchup. Changes in a player's role can also create new sleeper opportunities from week to week.

Should I start a fantasy football sleeper this week?

That depends on your league, your roster and the player's situation. A sleeper can be a strong option when you're dealing with an injury, a bye week or a difficult matchup for one of your usual starters, but it's important to consider each player's floor as well as their upside.

Do fantasy football sleepers change every week?

Yes. Sleeper candidates can change significantly as the season progresses because of injuries, emerging players, coaching decisions, matchups and changing workloads. That's why it's useful to reevaluate potential sleepers each week.
