3 FanDuel MLB DFS Stacks for Friday 6/21/24

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out our daily fantasy baseball projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- to identify the slate's best bats.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

MLB DFS Stacks

Los Angeles Dodgers

Implied Total: 4.85 | Opposing Pitcher: Patrick Sandoval

Los Angeles Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval will be tasked with facing the Los Angeles Dodgers for his 16th start of the season. Entering Friday's contest, Sandoval ranks in the 39th percentile in xERA (4.11), 26th percentile in xBA (.260), and 31st percentile in walk rate (9.6%).

After giving up just two homers in his first nine starts this season, Sandoval has allowed six home runs in his last six starts. Issuing free passes has also been a problem for Sandoval as he's walked three-plus batters in four of his last six outings.

Plenty of salary will be needed to stack the primary bats of the Dodgers, with Shohei Ohtani ($4,800), Will Smith ($3,600), Freddie Freeman ($3,900), and Teoscar Hernandez ($3,800) all combining to take up 46% of the allocated cap space on FanDuel. Ohtani has produced 22-plus FanDuel points in five consecutive games, accruing four homers and nine RBIs in that span.

With Sandoval giving up seven of his eight homers to righties, we can find value in stacking the right-handed bats from the back half of the Dodgers' lineup. Andy Pages ($2,900), Miguel Rojas ($2,600), Miguel Vargas ($2,700), Enrique Hernandez ($2,200), and Chris Taylor ($2,200) are all worth using to differentiate your Los Angeles stacks.

Following a disastrous start to the campaign, Taylor has tallied 15-plus FanDuel points in three of his last four contests. Across 58 plate appearances versus southpaws this year, Pages boasts a .409 wOBA, 170 wRC+, and .185 ISO.

Baltimore Orioles

Implied Total: 4.66 | Opposing Pitcher: Jake Bloss

Making the jump from Double-A to the majors is quite the difference for a pitcher, and that's exactly what Jake Bloss will be doing for the Houston Astros on Friday. Bloss has performed well in the minors with a 1.61 ERA and 3.98 xFIP through eight starts, but he'll have to take on one of the best lineups in baseball when the Baltimore Orioles come to town.

Aside from Bloss having a 38.1% fly-ball rate and 7.9% walk rate at Double-A -- which could become concerns against stiffer competition -- the Orioles are sporting the fourth-best wOBA (.331), fourth-best wRC+ (117), best ISO (.207), and seventh-lowest strikeout rate (20.7%) to right-handed pitching. Baltimore is coming off a three-game series versus the New York Yankees where they accumulated 26 runs.

Given the unknowns surrounding Bloss, we should feel comfortable using bats from both sides of the plate. Gunnar Henderson ($4,300), Adley Rutschman ($3,500), and Anthony Santander ($3,200) are the main targets for the Orioles in this matchup.

Henderson has recorded 30-plus FanDuel points in back-to-back games, and he's currently on a 13-game hit streak. Santander has notched 22-plus FanDuel points in four of his last six appearances, totaling five home runs and 11 RBIs in that span.

Along with the names above, Ryan Mountcastle ($2,900), Ryan O'Hearn ($2,800), and Cedric Mullins ($2,500) all figure to be solid salary-saving options in a favorable spot. Mullins has scored 27-plus FanDuel points in back-to-back games.

Boston Red Sox

Implied Total: 4.50 | Opposing Pitcher: Andrew Abbott

Andrew Abbott is showing massive splits as a left-handed starter for the Cincinnati Reds. Abbott is permitting a .324 wOBA, 1.78 HR/9, and a 4.95 xFIP to righties, compared to a .283 wOBA, 0.49 HR/9, and 4.03 xFIP to lefties through 14 starts in 2024.

A 52.2% fly-ball rate and a mediocre 8.2% swinging-strike rate could lead to issues for Abbott at home in warm weather versus the Boston Red Sox. Even though the Red Sox have the highest strikeout rate to lefties (28.1%), they also have the 10th-best wOBA (.325) and 12th-best wRC+ (105) in that split.

Boston has a handful of right-handed bats they'll deploy against Abbott, including the likes of Robert Refsnyder ($2,600), Tyler O'Neill ($3,000), and Connor Wong ($2,900). Against left-handed pitching, O'Neill is sporting a .505 wOBA, 228 wRC+, and .418 ISO this season.

While Jarren Duran ($3,600) and Rafael Devers ($3,800) are certainly viable, the other bats in the lineup could provide better value. Romy Gonzalez ($2,400), Bobby Dalbec ($2,100), and Ceddanne Rafaela ($2,800) are all interesting options to use in wraparound stacks in a hitter-friendly environment at Great American Ball Park.

Of the bunch, Rafaela is posting a .354 wOBA, 124 wRC+, and .203 ISO against southpaws this year. Rafaela has also contributed 12-plus FanDuel points in six of his last seven outings.
