3 FanDuel MLB DFS Stacks for Friday 5/24/24

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out our daily fantasy baseball projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- to identify the slate's best bats.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

MLB DFS Stacks

Philadelphia Phillies

Implied Total: 6.06 | Opposing Pitcher: Ty Blach

There is a Coors game on Friday's main slate involving a clash between the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies. The Phillies are expected to be a popular team to stack at a hitter-friendly venue with Ty Blach taking the mound for the Rockies.

Besides struggling to strike batters out, sitting in the first percentile in whiff rate (11.7%) and strikeout rate (11.4%), Blach is in the 12th percentile in xERA (5.44), first percentile in xBA (.327), and 27th percentile in average exit velocity (89.9 MPH). Blach is coming off his worst start of the season, allowing six earned runs and seven hits in just three innings in a road matchup versus the San Francisco Giants.

The Phillies have the most plate appearances (682) versus left-handed pitching this year, and they are recording the fourth-best wOBA (.340), ninth-best SLG (.414), and fifth-best wRC+ (120) in that split. Being that Blach is permitting a .421 wOBA and .544 SLG to right-handed hitters, compared to a .125 wOBA and .120 SLG to left-handed hitters, we'll want to focus on the righties in Philly's lineup.

J.T. Realmuto ($3,800), Alec Bohm ($4,100), and Nick Castellanos ($3,300) are the primary right-handed bats we want to target. Realmuto is amid a seven-game hit streak and has homered in back-to-back contests.

Edmundo Sosa ($3,400), Cristian Pache ($2,900), Johan Rojas ($3,300), and Whit Merrifield ($3,000) are other right-handed hitters to consider depending on who is confirmed in the lineup.

Just because Blach has performed well against lefties thus far doesn't mean you should completely avoid the likes of Bryce Harper ($4,600), Kyle Schwarber ($4,200), or Bryson Stott ($3,900), too.

Stacking the Phillies is easier said than done with increased salaries at Coors, but getting exposure to this game could be necessary if Philadelphia wreaks havoc against Blach and the bullpen of the Rockies.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Implied Total: 5.45 | Opposing Pitcher: Graham Ashcraft

Having to face the Los Angeles Dodgers twice within a week seems like a cruel punishment for a pitcher. Graham Ashcraft is set to start for the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, and he'll be hosting the Dodgers at Great American Ball Park in a warm and humid environment following his previous start at Dodger Stadium.

Ashcraft is another starter who struggles to get the ball by batters, sitting in the 27th percentile in whiff rate (22.1%) and strikeout rate (18.7%). That has resulted in Ashcraft ranking in the ninth percentile in average exit velocity (91.0 MPH) and 12th percentile in hard-hit rate (45.8%).

Additionally, Ashcraft is permitting a 7.47 ERA, .364 wOBA, .439 SLG, and 1.72 WHIP at home, compared to a 2.73 ERA, .305 wOBA, .391 SLG, and 1.25 WHIP on the road in 2024. Lefties are also logging a .370 wOBA, .500 SLG, and 1.96 HR/9 versus Ashcraft, so we'll want to center our attention on the left-handed bats in Los Angeles' order.

Shohei Ohtani ($4,500) and Freddie Freeman ($3,600) are certainly the primary left-handed hitters we want to target from the Dodgers. Freeman tallied 21.9 FanDuel points when Los Angeles last took on Ashcraft and Cincinnati's bullpen on May 18th.

The bottom of the order is where we can save some salary as Gavin Lux ($2,500), Andy Pages ($2,900), Jason Heyward ($2,500), and Enrique Hernandez ($2,500) are all under $3,000. Lux has at least one hit in eight of his last 11 contests -- with three multi-hit performances, four extra-base hits, and five RBIs in that span.

Los Angeles Angels

Implied Total: 3.96 | Opposing Pitcher: Logan Allen

The Los Angeles Angels continue to go overlooked in DFS in recent weeks, and they have a positive matchup versus Logan Allen and the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Across his first 10 starts in 2024, Allen is in the 31st percentile in xERA (4.44), 11th percentile in average exit velocity (90.9 MPH), 33rd percentile in strikeout rate (19.5%), 32nd percentile in barrel rate (8.8%), and 15th percentile in hard-hit rate (45.0%).

Despite allowing zero earned runs in back-to-back starts, Allen has given up three-plus earned runs in six appearances on the mound this year. At the same time, the Angels are posting the ninth-lowest strikeout rate (20.3%), sixth-highest wOBA (.337), seventh-highest wRC+ (117), and the 10th-highest ISO (.162) against left-handed pitching.

Since the start of May, the Angels also have the 10th-highest wOBA (.319), 12th-highest wRC+ (104), and 5th-highest ISO (.174) in all of baseball.

With Allen surrendering a .373 wOBA, .512 SLG, and 1.48 WHIP to righties, we'll want to use the right-handed bats from Los Angeles' lineup. Luis Rengifo ($3,000), Taylor Ward ($3,100), Kevin Pillar ($3,000), Logan O'Hoppe ($2,700), and Jo Adell ($3,000) are all in ideal spots on Friday.

Of the players mentioned, Pillar and Adell both possess an ISO of .350 or better versus southpaws this season. Rengifo is sporting a 202 wRC+ and just a 7.7% strikeout rate when facing left-handed pitchers.

Zach Neto ($2,900) and Kyren Paris ($2,400) are viable options at the bottom of the order in wraparound stacks if they are confirmed in the lineup. Neto is dealing with an elbow injury, so there's a chance he's not available in Friday's showdown against the Guardians.
