3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Wednesday 8/30/23

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.

Today is a Coors Field day between the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves, so while you should of course look at those lineups, we will focus on three other teams since we don't need to tell you what you already know there.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Implied Total: 5.45 | Opposing Pitcher: Brandon Pfaadt

With baseball's top offense busy going off in Colorado, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the top team we want to focus on and for good reason.

They'll be facing off with the Arizona Diamondbacks and their starter Brandon Pfaadt one day after going off for nine runs in their 9-1 victory.

Pfaadt hasn't been all too effective in his rookie season, showing very little sign of a guy that anyone should be veering away from -- especially the Dodgers. The righty has an inflated 5.91 ERA through 13 starts. He's allowed 15 home runs in those games while having a 4.59 SIERA, showing he's been a bit better than the surface numbers say, but that still isn't a great mark. Los Angeles should be thriving today offensively yet again.

We're not going to make this difficult -- start Mookie Betts ($4,500).

Betts is the top-projected bat of the day not playing at Coors Field with 14.9 FanDuel points, according to numberFire's model. His recent stretch has lifted him heavily into the National League MVP conversation, as he's got a .480 wOBA in the second half (.548 in August) with a 1.141 OPS and .274 ISO. Betts has 10 homers and has knocked in 32 runs through those 39 games, as well. There's no one swinging like Mookie right now. Fire him up.

As with any Dodgers stack, you can look to the other big lineup names like Freddie Freeman ($4,100), Max Muncy ($3,600), and Will Smith ($3,400).

If you're looking for some value, James Outman ($2,800) certainly fits the bill. He's hitting .294 with six home runs in the second half, making him the perfect option to finish off the LA stack.

Texas Rangers

Implied Total: 4.87 | Opposing Pitcher: Denyi Reyes

The rest of tonight's slate isn't as strong as the Dodgers or the two teams playing at Coors Field -- but there are still options nonetheless.

Take into consideration the Texas Rangers. After a handful of struggles, the Rangers have found their footing against the New York Mets and have a chance to get the bats fully going tonight as a result tonight.

The Mets will send Denyi Reyes to the bump. Reyes has been up and down from the minors this season. But when he's been up? It's been ugly. The right-hander has a 7.50 ERA, 4.96 SIERA, and 5.43 FIP. The strikeout rate is rather ineffective, too, as it stands at just a 20.7% rate through his seven games in the bigs this year.

In his two starts, he's allowed five runs in each. Those results have admittedly been against the Braves, but you'd think a top offense like the Rangers can produce like this, as well.

Corey Seager ($4,000) and Marcus Semien ($3,600) unsurprisingly come in as the top selections from this potent lineup. Seager specifically has been sensational all seasonm and he hasn't slipped in the second half. Texas' shortstop has a .441 wOBA and .378 ISO since the second half kicked off, two of the best clips in baseball. numberFire has Seager projected for 12.6 FanDuel points.

Semien has also hit well in the latter half of the season, as his .375 wOBA and .220 ISO are both better than what he was doing in the first half. He also has nine of his 20 home runs in his last 41 games.

As we know with the Rangers lineup, there's value up and down at this stage with so many of the hitters being capable. Fill out the rest of a Texas stack with Adolis Garcia ($3,700), Nathaniel Lowe ($3,300), Mitch Garver ($3,000), Jonah Heim ($2,900), and Ezequiel Duran ($2,700).

Arizona Diamondbacks

Implied Total: 4.55 | Opposing Pitcher: Lance Lynn

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the third team worth considering as a stack. They have the fifth-best implied total on the day (4.55).

Lance Lynn has been great since joining the Dodgers (2.03 ERA), but the strikeout rate has been down (26.9% to 21.0%), and his SIERA is actually up from 3.94 to 4.30. He's also allowed 34 home runs in 26 starts this season, so that's always on the table, as well.

Corbin Carroll ($4,000) has slowed a bit from his early-season heroics, but he's still a great play today.

The dynamic outfielder has been able to do it all this season with power and on the basepaths. Carroll has 23 home runs to pair with 96 runs scored (8th-most), 65 RBIs, and 40 stolen bases (3rd-most). numberFire has him projected for 12.6 FanDuel points today, the highest of any player on the D-Backs.

Christian Walker ($3,600) has become one of the better power bats in baseball, as he's followed up his 36-homer campaign in 2022 with 28 bombs this season. The Diamondbacks' first baseman has improved elsewhere as a hitter with his wOBA (.365), average (.269), and ISO (.251) all up -- which is due in part to being in a better lineup.

Ketel Marte ($3,400), Lourdes Gurriel ($2,900), Tommy Pham ($2,800), and Geraldo Perdomo ($2,700) all are suitable players to fill out a Diamondbacks stack.
