3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Tuesday 8/29/23

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.

Today is a Coors Field day between the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves, so while you should of course look at those lineups, we will focus on three other teams since we don't need to tell you what you already know there.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

Baltimore Orioles

Implied Total: 5.56 | Opposing Pitcher: Jesse Scholtens (RHP)

The Baltimore Orioles were the top stack option yesterday, and they ended up scoring nine runs in a shutout over the Chicago White Sox. Let's run it back then, shall we?

Chicago will trot out Jesse Scholtens. Scholtens has been an arm who gets innings for the White Sox -- that's about it. The righty has a 4.91 SIERA, 4.92 FIP, and a poor 16.8% strikeout rate. He's also allowed three-plus runs in his last four starts. There's not a lot to be afraid of here, which means we should get as many Orioles bats as possible into DFS lineups.

For the second straight day, Anthony Santander ($3,400) will be your top option for the Baltimore offense as numberFire has him projected for 13.7 FanDuel points. Santander was a key contributor in the 9-0 win on Monday, hitting a home run and adding three RBI to the victory. Overall this season, he has a .346 wOBA and 25 homers in the middle of their lineup. Santander is getting the job done and should be in lineups again.

Gunnar Henderson ($3,400) is the AL Rookie of the Year favorite (-750) -- and for good reason. He's checked a lot of boxes with his overall play on both sides of the diamond this season, including some impressive offensive numbers.

Through 120 games this season, Henderson has a .344 wOBA to pair with his 22 home runs, 75 runs scored, and 65 RBIs. At the top of the Orioles order, the opportunities will be there for the shortstop to put up numbers.

Finish out the Baltimore stack with Ryan Mountcastle ($3,300), Cedric Mullins ($3,300), Adley Rutschman ($3,200), and/orAdam Frazier ($2,400).

Boston Red Sox

Implied Total: 5.12 | Opposing Pitcher: J.P. France (RHP)

Back at Fenway Park, the Boston Red Sox were rocked by the Houston Astros on Monday so will look to retaliate with their own offensive dominance tonight.

The Red Sox will get to face J.P. France, which should be a get-right situation for their offense -- even after scoring four runs in Game 1 of the series. France has been good enough this season with a 3.51 ERA, but the underlying advanced metrics say it hasn't been that good for France. He has a 4.76 SIERA and 4.37 FIP that goes with his less-than-stellar ability to strike out batters (17.8% rate), making this a matchup that should benefit the Sox.

As often with the Red Sox, the guy you'll want leading that stack is their franchise player Rafael Devers ($3,800).

Devers has been an offensive machine once again in 2023 with 29 home runs and 88 RBIs -- both marks are better or as good as his full season in 2022. He's put together a .361 wOBA and .242 ISO, two clips that you'll happily take from a powerful bat. He's the top-projected player for Boston with 15.0 FanDuel points, per numberFire's model.

Adam Duvall ($3,000) is a must-start right now. Over his last eight games, the slugger has six home runs. He's hit three of those six in three straight games, and at this rate, it's hard to take him out of the lineup when he's going this good. The numbers in August include a staggering .418 wOBA, .365 ISO, and 1.007 OPS. There's no one hotter in Boston's order.

Elsewhere in the lineup, you could include any of Justin Turner ($3,300), Alex Verdugo ($3,300), Trevor Story ( $3,000), orTriston Casas ($2,900) to complete a Red Sox stack for today's slate.

Houston Astros

Implied Total: 4.88 | Opposing Pitcher: Brayan Bello (RHP)

After putting up 17 and 13 runs in their last two games, it's also hard to go against the red-hot Houston Astros lineup right now, and that is bad news for the Red Sox starter Brayan Bello.

Bello has had himself an overall quality season as he sports a 3.56 ERA and a 4.20 SIERA. Both are respectable numbers, but calming down the Astros lineup right now seems like a dream rather than a realistic possibility.

The Astros have the fifth-best implied total of the day at 4.88, but with the bats as hot as can be, why would we go against them?

It's hard to go with anyone other than Yordan Alvarez ($3,900) when it comes to kicking off any Houston stack. Alvarez is coming off a 4-for-4 day that featured a home run, four RBI, and two walks -- just nasty work at the plate. There's really little shock in his offensive numbers this season with the .560 SLG, .402 wOBA, 160 wRC+, and .272 ISO. The dude rakes and won't stop any time soon. He's one of baseball's best hitters for a reason and is the Astros' top projected player on the day with 14.8 FanDuel points, per numberFire.

As often goes with the Astros lineup, anyone of Jose Altuve ($4,000), Kyle Tucker ($3,800), Alex Bregman ($3,500), and Chas McCormick ($3,400) make sense for a stack. Jeremy Pena ($2,700) should get some love, as well, with seven hits in his last two games.
