3 Dark Horse Picks for the 2022 Wyndham Championship on FanDuel Sportsbook

Beyond the favorites and top-ranked golfers with the lowest odds to win, there are plenty of other players and dark horses who offer more value as capable contenders.

1. Denny McCarthy (+3200)

McCarthy is one of the very elite putters on Tour, and best in this field. He's also one of the most accurate from the tee. The 29-year-old East Coast native is having his finest year on Tour, and playing some of his best golf recently. McCarthy's short game, putting and approach stats all rank top-10 in this field when playing Sedgefield, and his last three appearances have produced a T-22, T-9 and T-15 finish while shooting all 12 rounds under par. Invest in this short-hitting riser who is on a roll with three top-7 finishes in his last five tournaments.

2. Harold Varner III (+4200)

Varner is a North Carolina native whose weakness is putting, He's played 22 competitive rounds at Sedgefield CC and ranks No. 91 in this 156 player field in putting. Still, he's had two top-10 finishes in this event in 2017 and 2020 and shot 62 and 63 in those opening rounds. A first round leader bet is in order, along with a top-10 finish near +400 odds. Varner finished T-3 this year and T-2 last year at comp course Harbour Town earlier this spring that requires solid skills in accuracy, approach and ball striking. Over his last 36 rounds, Varner ranks top-7 in both approach and tee-to-green play, and he's gained strokes in those to categories and around-the-green in at least eight of his last ten events. Varner is also No. 3 in this field in opportunities gained.

3. Callum Tarren (+8000)

Callum Tarren holds intriguing value as someone with longer odds. The 31-year-old Englishman really found his groove in July following a very poor start to the season when he missed five consecutive cuts. With four T-22 finishes or better including a pair of top-10's in July, the big hitting Tarren has moved just inside the top-125 of the FedEx Cup Standings. His confidence and game is growing and he'll be laser focused with a playoff berth on the line knowing he's also gained strokes across the board last month with more strength in putting. Undeterred by Tarren's debut in this event at Sedgefield as another top-20 finish or better is a nice payoff as well.
