Super Bowl Odds Update: Hail to the Chiefs

Undoubtedly, NFL Week 7 was a doozy. There were staggering upsets, pivotal late-game penalties, and a victorious Division II quarterback -- helter skelter!

Of course, the Kansas City Chiefs stayed hot, winning their sixth consecutive game. Entering NFL Week 8, K.C. has returned as favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl odds board after two games away from the top spot.

Two perennial frontrunners were upset on the road last week. On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills were outlasted by the New England Patriots (+350 ML), 29-25. Notably, it served as Bill Belichick's 300th NFL win as a head coach.

Then on Monday, Kirk Cousins, Jordan Addison and the Minnesota Vikings (+250 ML) shined over the San Francisco 49ers, 22-17. San Francisco was without Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and Trent Williams (ankle), while Minnesota was missing Justin Jefferson (hamstring).

Tredging through these middle game of the NFL regular season can be both laborious and arduous. Before Week 8 gets underway with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading to Buffalo on Thursday Night Football, let's dive into the current Super Bowl betting market at FanDuel Sportsbook, keeping eye out for key movement.

One reminder: there are no teams on bye this week.

Notable Jumps

Kansas City Chiefs

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +450
Last Week: +500

Despite a slower-than-usual start to the season, Kansas City seems to be operating back near peak form. Their most recent contest against the Los Angeles Chargers was a Patrick Mahomes-to-Travis Kelce masterclass. Mahomes tossed the rock for 424 yards and four touchdowns. Naturally, Kelce accounted for one of those scores with 179 receiving yards on a dozen grabs -- really not too shabby for National Tight Ends Day.

Of course, around the NFL, no one's stock is higher than Kansas City's. They are the defending Super Bowl champions, they have the reigning AP NFL MVP, their defense is allowing just 15.0 PPG (2nd in NFL), and they are on a six-game winning streak. Oh, and Taylor Swift is at just about all of their games these days. Genuinely, the franchise from KCMO is in its heyday at this very moment.

Regardless of how things may transpire with Kelce and Swift, I think everyone expects the Chiefs to be around for the long haul again this season. After sitting at +500 odds in the Super Bowl market for a couple of weeks, Kansas City has dipped under. Before the odds get any shorter, perhaps now is time for a play on the Chiefs.

Baltimore Ravens

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +1200
Last Week: +1500

The Baltimore Ravens are coming off their best game of the 2023 season. In last Sunday's early window, the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions traveled out to Maryland only to be suffocated from the opening kick. By day's end, quarterback Lamar Jackson threw three touchdowns while scrambling for one additional score. Baltimore reigned supreme, 38-6.

After starting the season at +1800 to win the upcoming big game, the Ravens are down to their shortest price of the year in that market: +1200.

It is tough to not like Baltimore. Their defense ranks tops in scoring (13.9 PPG) while showing second-best in yards allowed. Against a stout offensive line from Detroit, the Ravens had no issues holding the Lions to only 84 yards on the ground.

Atop the AFC North, Baltimore's offense also seems to be coming alive. The trio of Mark Andrews, Zay Flowers, and Odell Beckham had their best collective performance over the weekend, producing a total of 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Could similar group efforts be on the horizon for the Ravens?

Steep Drops

Buffalo Bills

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +1200
Last Week: +900

At 4-3 straight up (SU), the Bills officially have suffered multiple head-scratching losses. Most recently, they fell at the buzzer while visiting the division-rival Patriots. That loss gives Buffalo just a 1-2 record within AFC East play this season. Frankly, that level of consistency will not be up to snuff when/if vying for playoff positioning.

I don't think anyone doubts that Buffalo has talent. Quarterback Josh Allen has an expansive skill set and can make any throw on the field. The offensive cast of Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, and Dalton Kincaid presents many favorable matchups. So, what gives with the Bills?

Despite having a very respectable defense (fifth in scoring right now), it seems Buffalo often has issues playing complementary football -- or putting it all together. I very much like the unit led by Matt Milano and Micah Hyde, but without Von Miller looking like himself, an element is still missing. Miller has yet to make an impact in three games played this year.

New Orleans Saints

FanDuel Sportsbook Odds: +5500
Last Week: +4700

They possess myriad talents, but the New Orleans Saints are struggling mightily on offense right now. New quarterback Derek Carr has really not had a major game with Who Dat to this point, showing a dismal 6.3 yards per pass attempt with just a 3:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio for 2023. New Orleans falls way down at 21st overall in terms of scoring (19.0 PPG).

Strangely, the Saints have gone 1-3 SU in the four games since halfback Alvin Kamara returned from suspension. He is still a productive dual-threat player, but he is not finding the end zone too often -- Kamara has just one touchdown in 2023. Unfortunately for NOLA, that same statement also applies to star receivers Chris Olave and Michael Thomas.

New Orleans' defense is certainly their strength, but the unit is also coming off a poor showing from last Thursday Night Football. In that one, the Saints surrendered 31 points and 330 yards of total offense to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Who Dat had opportunities late, but a would-be game-saving touchdown pass from Carr to tight end Foster Moreau muffed off of Moreau's mitts, falling incomplete.

We'll see if New Orleans bounces back next weekend at the Indianapolis Colts.
