The 2023 French Open tennis tournament has been underway Sunday, May 28, and the 128-player field on the women's side is now down to just eight players and ready to begin the quarterfinal round. Defending champion Iga Swiatek is still alive for the women but is preparing for a tough matchup against No. 6 seed Coco Gauff.

2023 Women's French Open Format
The French Open for both men and women begins with 132 players in a traditional single-elimination bracket format. In each round, that number is cut in half until a champion is crowned. Matches are played on clay courts, something the French Open is famous for. All women's matches are in the traditional three-set format and the top 32 players are assigned seeds.
