Week 15 Thursday Night Football Fantasy Picks: Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for 49ers vs Seahawks (Trust Mr. Irrelevant)
Updated:
Week 15 of the 2022 NFL season gets underway with an NFC West showdown on Thursday Night Football between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. The betting markets are expecting a close game with the 49ers favored by 3 points in Seattle on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's our start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 15 Thursday Night Football matchup.
Brock Purdy Fantasy
Start Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers: Forget the "Mr. Irrelevant" nickname or the fact that he was literally the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy has looked totally comfortable since taking over for Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13, completing 70.7% of his throws with 4 passing touchdowns (plus a rushing score) and only 1 interception. He's clearly in good hands with Kyle Shanahan, so look for him to have another strong performance against one of the worst defenses in the league on Thursday. The Seahawks are giving up the third-most points and fifth-most yards per game, setting up Purdy for what might be his best game of the season.
Geno Smith Fantasy
Start Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks: Smith may be facing a tough defense and is coming off the first multi-interception game of his career, but now isn't the time to fade him. He's thrown for multiple touchdowns in seven straight games and 11 of 13 contests this year. He still leads the NFL in completion percentage as well at 71.5%, so don't expect too many more interceptions from him. Throw in his success on the ground with 263 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Smith's dual-threat abilities make him a solid QB1 regardless of the matchup.
Jauan Jennings Fantasy
Sit Jauan Jennings, WR, San Francisco 49ers: Jennings has shown some promise as a solid third wideout at times behind Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, but overall he's been too inconsistent. He proved that once again in Week 14, failing to make much of an impact even after Samuel left the game with an injury. Jennings still only finished with 1 catch on 2 targets for 5 receiving yards, proving that he can't be trusted at this stage of the fantasy season, especially with playoffs underway in some leagues. While the 25-year-old could see an expanded role this week, he's not worth the risk with only 1 touchdown and one game with over 50 receiving yards this year.
Kenneth Walker Fantasy
Sit Kenneth Walker, RB, Seattle Seahawks: Walker returns from an ankle injury this week after sitting out Week 14 and managing just 3 carries in Week 13. Fantasy managers may be tempted to plug him back into their lineups, but this is not a good matchup for him. The 49ers have the best run defense in the NFL and are allowing a meager 75.1 rushing yards per game. That doesn't bode well for Walker, who was averaging just 2.9 yards per carry in his last three games before going down. Keep the 22-year-old rookie on your bench for one more week.
