Dozens of basketball players found out where they'd begin their professional careers at the 2023 NBA Draft earlier this week. With the offseason now in full swing, NBA enthusiasts already have their sights set on the 2023-24 player awards — especially when it comes to Rookie of the Year.

With that in mind, let's check out the early contenders for next year's NBA Rookie of the Year, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's 2023-24 ROY odds that were recently released.

NBA Rookie of the Year 2023-24 Odds

After going first overall to the San Antonio Spurs, it isn't shocking to see Victor Wembanyama a FanDuel Sportsbook's -160 favorite to be named the NBA Rookie of the Year. The 7-foot-4 phenom is coming off a dominant campaign with the LNB Pro A's Mets 92, having led the league in both points (21.6) and blocks (3.0) per game while also tallying an average of 10.4 rebounds.

The Portland Trail Blazers' Scoot Henderson holds the next-best ROY odds, coming in at +400. The exciting guard competed against men as a member of the G-League Ignite, averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 assists while shooting 42.9% from the floor.

The Oklahoma City Thunder's' Chet Holmgren — who was the No. 2 pick in 2022 — rounds out the top three at+650 odds. The talented big man missed the 2022-23 season due to a Lisfranc injury, leaving time to tell if his now-healed foot will be strong enough to help him compete with this year's rookie class.

Although the crop of 2023 rookies is extremely talented, I'm actually going to take Chet Holmgren as at +650 odds as the best 2023-24 NBA ROY pick.

For starters, Holmgren was the favorite to win the 2022-23 award last summer before hurting his foot in a Pro-AM game. Although he never got to suit up in the regular season, he still underwent the NBA training process and is more acclimated to how things work at the professional level compared to the incoming rookie class.

Secondly, although it was just the Summer League, Holmgren still looked more than comfortable, averaging 14 points on .479/.421/.941 splits over five games. He's now had the chance to train and put on even more weight over the last year, meaning it won't be shocking if similar success follows him in the regular season.

Another thing that Holmgren has going for him is that the Thunder were actually solid last year, going 40-42, and even qualified for the Play-In Tournament. OKC players like Josh Giddey, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Aleksej Pokusevski are some of the best young players in the sport today and only getting better. Holmgren could find himself thriving on a potential playoff team, which matters in the eyes of voters.

As long as he stays healthy, Holmgren will be a 2023-24 NBA ROY threat until the very end.
