Tom Brady Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (No Signs of Slowing Down in Tampa Bay)
Updated:
Tom Brady denied Father Time in 2021 by being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Not only did he lead the league with 5,316 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, but he also finished as the No. 3 QB in fantasy football leagues. Fantasy managers are left wondering if he can replicate his success again.
With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Brady smack dab in the middle of QB1 range in fantasy football rankings this year. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the ninth quarterback off the board and as an eighth-round selection.
Tom Brady Fantasy Football Outlook
It seems like a yearly tradition at this point. Tom Brady is ranked toward the bottom of QB1 range heading into the fantasy football season and ends up as a top-three option when all is said and done. It happened in 2020 as well as 2021. Brady runs point on an offense that has ranked among the top 10 NFL teams in offensive yards per game and points per game in each of the last two seasons. That is always going to result in big-time production. Production that rivals any other QB in the NFL.
The simple fact is that Tampa Bay is a pass-first offense. That was proven by their league-leading 66.5% passing play percentage in 2021. Brady attempted the most passes in the league last year (719) and it resulted in the highest passing yards mark of his entire career (5,316). He posted at least 24 fantasy points in 10 of his 17 games, too. Keep in mind the 45-year-old gets a majority of his weapons back this fall. Wide receiver Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will lead the receiving core with Leonard Fournette set to start in the backfield.
People are always going to find reasons to avoid drafting Brady, like pointing to his tough schedule. However, the Buccaneers are set to face three defenses from Weeks 14-17 that ranked outside the top 14 in pass defense DVOA rating last season. Of course, that is within the span of the typical fantasy football playoffs. Brady may seem like a quarterback that doesn't move the needle much, but he's absolutely an option that can lead you a championship.
Tom Brady Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect Brady to put together one heck of a 2022 season. He's second to lead the NFL in passing yards (+800) after finishing at the top of that statistical category last year. He's also first to lead the NFL in passing touchdowns (+500). That's a feat he has accomplished five times in his storied career, with the most recent time coming in 2021. When taking Brady's averages with the Buccaneers into account (301.5 passing yards per game, 2.5 touchdowns per game), it's a safe bet to say he can reach 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2022.
Is Tom Brady a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
When it comes down to it, is Brady someone to target in the middle rounds? For sure. He has a ceiling of a top-three QB and the floor of a low-end QB1. He's the No. 10 quarterback in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings and is a great option that doesn't break the bank to draft.
After ranking 17th in the NFL with 64.2 plays per game in 2020, the Buccaneers averaged 67.5 plays per game in 2021. That was good enough to rank third in the NFL. Their fast-paced offense worked wonders and it gives Brady more than enough upside to be worthy of an eighth-round selection.
