Tim Patrick Injury Update Solidifies Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy Fantasy Outlook
Updated:
Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick was getting some love as a fantasy football sleeper in 2022 thanks to a huge upgrade at quarterback with Russell Wilson.
Unfortunately, Patrick has gone down with what looks like a serious injury at training camp, crushing his fantasy football value for 2022. On the other side of the coin, this should really solidify Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy's value.
Tim Patrick Injury Update
It remains to be seen how bad Patrick's injury is, but a non-contact leg injury with the whole team taking a knee around him is not the kind of thing that usually screams "minor injury."
Patrick has quietly been one of the Broncos' most consistent receivers over the last two years, with back-to-back 50-reception, 700-yard seasons and a combined 11 touchdowns since 2020.
Jerry Jeudy Fantasy Outlook
Patrick's injury should give Jeudy a really nice boost. Sutton may be getting drafted right alongside Jeudy in a close battle according to average draft position (ADP) data, but Jeudy should easily be the team's top receiver.
After returning from injury in Week 8 last year, Jeudy racked up 56 targets. Sutton, in comparison, had just 40 while Patrick also tallied 46 during that stretch.
Patrick's absence in the red zone could also help benefit Jeudy, whose fantasy upside was limited by a goose-egg in the touchdown department last year.
Courtland Sutton Fantasy Outlook
Patrick's injury could also bail out drafters who have selected Sutton early. Trailing Jeudy and Patrick as the team's WR3 for a long half-season stretch in 2021, it's far from a guarantee that Sutton was in line for any sort of a feature role. But now with Patrick likely on the shelf, Wilson will have to lean much more heavily on his top two wideouts, helping save Sutton's value.
The Duel's 2022 PPR fantasy football rankings now have Jeudy at WR21 with Sutton at WR32.
