Rays Spend Nearly $4 Million on Top-15 International Prospect

Updated:

Rays fans know that the international signing period is a chance for the team to truly change their prospect depth for the better. They've seen it make an impact with players like Alex Colome and Wander Franco. Tampa Bay proved they are not messing around once again with its latest outfield addition.

Tampa Bay Rays News

The Rays have signed outfielder Brailer Guerrero to a deal that includes a $3.7 million signing bonus. Guerrero checks in at No. 12 in MLB.com's international amateur rankings and is best known for his bat. The 16-year-old out of the Dominican Republic has the tools to hit for both contact and power.

Guerrero has the bat speed to keep up in the minor leagues right away and the foot speed to make a name for himself in right field. That last part is noteworthy considering the Rays have no outfield prospects included in MLB.com's top 100 rankings. The future spot is wide open for Guerrero to earn.

Tampa Bay has long been praised for its ability to build find underrated prospects and was recently voted by a panel of MLB executives as one of the teams that best develops young hitters. There's no denying that Guerrero is in good hands, so keep an eye out for his name in the coming seasons.

Tampa Bay has odds set at +2500 to win the 2023 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
