Rangers Get Bad News With Corey Seager Injury Update

Updated:

The Texas Rangers may have defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 2-0, on Thursday night, but it wasn't all good news. Shortstop Corey Seager fouled a ball off his leg during the fifth inning and was forced to leave the contest, leaving Rangers fans concerned about his health.

The Rangers revealed after the game that Seager has been diagnosed with a lower-right leg contusion. While it's good that the issue isn't worse, Texas can't be thrilled that the 28-year-old might be sidelined for the next little while.

Corey Seager Injury Update

Seager's injury couldn't have come at a worse time this season. After the occasional struggle in June, the Charlotte, NC native has taken things to a new level in July. He's played 23 games so far this month, crushing nine home runs and driving in 19 RBIs while recording a .318/.394/.647 slash line.

The hope is that Seager can pick up from where he left off whenever he returns from injury. He's played well enough this season to make his first MLB All-Star Game since 2017 and must be healthy if the Rangers hope to erase the 8.5 game deficit between them and the final AL wild card spot.

In the meantime, the belief is that Marcus Semien will take over starting shortstop duties. He's mostly played at second base this season but has made 787 career starts at SS (the most of any position) where he owns a career .969 field percentage.

Rangers World Series Odds

Losing Seager for any period of time would hurt the Rangers' already uninspiring championship odds. For now, FanDuel Sportsbook has Texas available at +100000 odds (No. 21) to win the 2022 World Series.
