Rams-Cam Akers Drama Takes Surprising New Turn
Updated:
Running back Cam Akers was surprisingly ruled out on Friday for the Los Angeles Rams' Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. He isn't dealing with an injury, though, and is sidelined due to personal reasons. More details are being revealed about the growing drama in the Rams organization.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport explained that Akers has "philosophical and football-related differences" with head coach Sean McVay. Akers has been persistent in the questioning of what his role on the team is and what the pecking order of the backfield looks like. Little clarity has been provided to him.
While the third-year pro has remained professional in his relationship with McVay and has caused no rifts in the locker room, it's possible Akers has played his last snap with LA. Rapoport reported that the next step for the Rams could very well be fielding trade offers on the young Florida State product.
Akers would likely draw significant interest in the trade market. This is a 23-year-old that looks better now than he did before an Achilles injury caused him to miss the entire 2021 season. Akers has logged 779 rushing yards, 151 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 217 career touches (19 games).
The Rams will turn to veterans Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown to handle the workload in Week 6. Undrafted rookie Ronnie Rivers will also be elevated to the active roster and has been gaining a ton of praise from the coaches. All three ball carriers should see touches in what could be a blowout win.
The Rams are slated as a 10-point home favorite over the Panthers, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
