Rakuten Super Bowl 2023 Commercial Channels 'Clueless' With Actress Alicia Silverstone

Another Super Bowl is upon us, which means plenty of star-studded commercials are on the way. Rakuten didn't hold back on its effort to reach a wide audience by bringing in actress Alicia Silverstone to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz from the movie "Clueless."

The ad starts with Silverstone walking to the front of a school classroom to give her side of a debate about using Rakuten for online shopping uses. She highlights how users can get cash back on their purchases by using the app on anything from clothing to beauty products to "pretty much whatever."

The commercial is chock full of references from the movie, including catchphrases like "as if" and "butt crazy." Rakuten dives even deeper by having Silverstone's opponent during the debate be actress Elisa Donovan. She reprises her sassy role as Amber from the 1995 romantic comedy.

Silverstone ends the commercial by stretching her gum as she believes she won the debate, which perfectly lines up with a standout scene from the film. Viewers who keep their eyes peeled can see fashion designer Christian Siriano appear as a student, too. Rakuten went all-in on the details here.

Silverstone said in an interview that she was thrilled to come back as Cher and partner with Rakuten considering the character is "one of film's historic shopaholics." Anyone feeling the need to relive their childhood or see what all the hype is about can find "Clueless" streaming on Paramount+.
