Pittsburgh Bowl Game History

College football fans shouldn't be shocked to find out Pittsburgh has built a compelling bowl game history. The Panthers have played in a total of 37 bowl games all-time.

Pittsburgh's first bowl appearance came in the 1927 Rose Bowl under head coach Jock Sutherland. The Panthers fell just short in a 7-6 loss to Stanford and their first bowl win did not come until nine years later. They took down the Washington Huskies by a score of 21-0 in the 1936 Rose Bowl.

The Panthers' most recent bowl appearance came in the 2022 Sun Bowl. Pitt won a high-scoring shootout in that one, defeating UCLA 37-35.
