Photo From 1957 of Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry Coaching for Giants is Amazing
Updated:
The New York Giants are heading into the 2020 NFL season with a new head coach in Joe Judge. Judge will be the team's third head coach in five years since Tom Coughlin was forced to resign following the 2015 season.
This recent turmoil is in stark contrast with the Giants' history of great coaching. Just take a look at this incredible photo from 1957.
Head coach Jim Lee Howell is the only one in that photo that isn't in the NFL Hall of Fame. Howell had Dallas Cowboys legend Tom Landry as his defensive coordinator and Green Bay Packers legend Vince Lombardi as his offensive coordinator. Talk about an incredible staff. Howell, Lombardi and Landry led the Giants to the NFL championship in 1956 and 1958, winning it all in '58.
Landry and Lombardi, of course, also went on to establish themselves as two of the greatest coaches in NFL history. As head coaches, the pair went on to win a combined 346 games (96 from Lombardi and 250 from Landry).
One of the two also led their team to a championship appearance in seven of the first 13 Super Bowls, winning a combined four of them between 1966 and 1977.
It's truly incredible to consider just how much NFL history is in this one photo.
