3 Most Likely Parris Campbell Free Agent Destinations
Updated:
The football world is buzzing now that the 2023 NFL free agency period opens up in less than two weeks. Out of the available wide receivers, Parris Campbell is one name worth tracking. The former Ohio State product was solid with the Indianapolis Colts last season, turning 63 catches into 623 receiving yards and a trio of touchdowns.
Injuries have been a concern for Campbell in the past, but finally playing a full season is bound to get him some attention. If he can stay healthy again, it won't be shocking if he could have another WR3-type season with some WR2 upside. In other words, he'll see a fair amount of suitors next week.
Here's a look at Campbell's three most likely free-agent destinations.
Parris Campbell Free Agency
1. Indianapolis Colts
After three injury-riddled seasons, the Colts finally saw what Campbell was capable of last year. With his only being 25 years old, he's potentially capable of more and it won't be shocking if Indianapolis wants to see if he can live up to that potential. Aside from Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce, the Colts don't have any other reliable WRs if they're to lose Campbell. They also used a 2019 second-round pick on him, meaning they're likelier to stick with him rather than if he were a late-rounder. Even if it's just a short-term 'prove yourself' kind of deal, I won't be shocked if the Colts are the frontrunners to sign Campbell.
2. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears desperately like reliable WR depth as Chase Claypool and Darnell Mooney are the only names who stand out. Quarterback Justin Fields needs another target to help take the Bears to the next level and Campbell would be perfect for the role. For starters, Campbell could assume the WR3 role behind Claypool and Mooney, much like he did with Pittman and Pierce in Indianapolis. The 25-year-old also had a 69.2% catch percentage in 2022 — better than any Bears wideout that saw at least 14 targets. Assuming that he can remain healthy, it's clear that Campbell can be a reliable weapon to help Fields grow.
3. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns' WR room was non-existent outside of Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones last season. Needless to say, there's no reason why they shouldn't pursue Campbell. On top of being a good fit for the Browns' WR3 spot, a deal makes sense due to the pass-catcher's history in Ohio. Not only was he born in nearby Akron, but he also attended Ohio State. Some players dream of playing in front of their loved ones on the local team and this situation would give Campbell the chance to live that dream.
