3 Most Likely Jason Pierre-Paul Destinations in 2022 NFL Free Agency

Jason Pierre-Paul resurrected his career after a pair of fantastic seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 and 2020. He tallied 18 sacks over that stretch before an injury-riddled campaign held him to just 12 games played and 2.5 sacks a year ago.

Regardless, there's always a need for veteran edge rushers on contending rosters. Here are the three most likely free-agent destinations for the former No. 15 overall pick.

Jason Pierre-Paul Free Agency

1. Buffalo Bills

Market projections show JPP worth around $10 million a year, but coming off a shoulder injury that required surgery may mean a bit of a discount. Both Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison hit free agency, leaving a potential hole or two on the edge. Buffalo still racked up 42 sacks (11th) last year while no defender topped more than 7.0 sacks. It's a defense built around depth and JPP might take another discount to play for a team eyeing the Super Bowl. The Bills are about $200K over the cap currently.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

Even after trading for Khalil Mack, the Los Angeles Chargers have plenty of cap space and must continue to make improvements on defense to help Justin Herbert and the aerial attack. Fresh off a year giving up fourth-most points on defense, Los Angeles has to feel the heat in the AFC West. JPP would Los Angeles a terrifying trio alongside Mack and Joey Bosa, who led the team with 10.5 sacks last year. Even with Bosa's 10.5 sacks, the Chargers managed 35 team sacks (21st). This is a strong option for JPP to secure his potential last big payday in the NFL.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles pass-rush produced mixed results in 2021. Philadelphia ranked 12th in QB hurries but produced just 29 sacks (31st). JPP would join an Eagles squad in desperate need of successfully getting after their QB, but capable of bolstering their already-strong run defense. With Derek Barnett hitting free agency after a underwhelming 2.5-sack season, JPP is an upgrade. Philadelphia has $20 million in cap space to work with and this fit makes sense.
