Mike Evans Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Rock Solid Top-12 WR Value)

Mike Evans Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Rock Solid Top-12 WR Value)

Updated:

Mike Evans finished as WR9 in last year's PPR leagues, but his performance gave some fantasy managers pause. While scoring the second-most receiving touchdowns (14) in football, a 16% target share left fantasy players wanting more.

Fear not. There's a reason his average draft position (ADP) still ranks him as WR9 and 26th overall, making him a rock solid top-12 option at the position once again.

Mike Evans Fantasy Football Outlook

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the most pass-heavy team in the NFL last year, passing the ball on 65.5% of their snaps. Chris Godwin was the only other wideout to out-target Evans (127 to 114), but he'll likely not return from a knee injury until the midway point of the year.

That means a plethora of opportunities for Evans in the first half, and the hope he rides that momentum all season long.

Tom Brady is back, and the Buccaneers' offense should be humming once again. Tampa Bay even added playmaker insurance in the form of Julio Jones and Russell Gage in the meantime. Neither player is of Evans' caliber, so open targets should continue to flow his way.

Since Brady's arrival, Evans has averaged 111.5 targets and 72 receptions per year. Those numbers are only poised to jump with an extended absence from Brady's other favorite target (Godwin). After all, Godwin led the team with 21.5% of the red zone target share. Evans saw 16% himself, and looks for that number to grow after a monstrous season finding the end zone.

Mike Evans Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are also nice and high on Evans. He's T-8th to lead the NFL in receiving yards, and T-10th to lead in receptions. Considering he's averaged 6.97 targets per game over the past two years, Evans could net 118 targets across 17 games. At last year's pace of 64.7% catch rate and 14.0 yards per reception, 125 targets projects to give him about 76 receptions for 1,073 yards.
