Yes, the Michigan Wolverines won an NCAA Basketball National Championship in March Madness during the 1989 season. They defeated the Seton Hall Pirates in overtime by a score of 80-79.
Michigan March Madness Wins & Best Finishes
Michigan's best March Madness finish came when they won the National Championship game in 1989. Aside from that, the Wolverines have finished as the runner-up six times, most recently in 2018.
Overall, Michigan has made the Final Four eight times: 1964, 1965, 1976, 1989, 1992, 1993, 2013, and 2018. Keep in mind the 1992 Final Four and all 1993, 1996, & 1998 games have been forfeited due to NCAA sanctions, though.
