  • Houston is 8-0 straight up in its last eight home games against the Mets.

Mets vs Astros Prediction & Pick

Max Scherzer is the starting pitcher tasked with helping the Mets avoid a third straight loss. The three-time Cy Young winner started the 2023 campaign off strong but has struggled lately. Scherzer has an 11.00 ERA in his last two starts, surrendering 11 runs on 18 hits over just nine innings of work.

Hunter Brown, meanwhile, has been solid for the Astros at home. In six starts at Minute Maid Park this season, Brown is 2-2 with a 3.21 ERA while averaging 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings. He also looked good in his last start on June 13, going seven innings without allowing a run on four hits and striking out four batters in a 6-1 win over the Washington Nationals.

Although neither club has been playing well lately, it's too difficult to trust the Mets on the road. Not only have they lost seven of their past eight away games, but they've also lost eight straight trips to Minute Maid Park, having not won in Houston since 2011.

With Brown's pitching leading the charge, look for the Astros to get back on track.

Final Score Prediction: Astros: 5 | Mets: 3

Mets vs Astros Best Bet

Although I like the way that Brown has been pitching, I don't see him recording over 5.5 strikeouts tonight. Despite their struggles, the Mets don't get fooled too often by right-handed pitchers and have the fourth-fewest strikeouts against righties (384) in the Majors.

Throw in the fact that Brown has finished with the Under in six of 13 appearances thus far — including each of his last two — and it's easy to see why expectations should be tempered.

Bet: Hunter Brown — Strikeouts: Under 5.5 (-116)
