Mariners Connected to Stud Japanese Pitcher in Free Agency

The Seattle Mariners' starting rotation posted the 11th-best ERA in baseball this past year, but it was quite clear another piece or two is needed to push the team over the top. Seattle broke a 20-year playoff drought in 2022 and has their sights set on bigger accomplishments.

Fortunately, the team may be in the running for a top international free agent.

MLB insider Jon Morosi reported Monday on the current market for Japanese stud SP Kodai Senga. Seattle is one of five MLB clubs "scouting him very intently." Notably, the list of suitors features mainly West Coast teams in the Mariners, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays.

Senga pitched to a 1.89 ERA and struck out 9.7 batters per nine innings this past season while playing for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks in Japan's Nippon League.
