Laurel Park Horse Racing Picks and Stakes Races for Saturday 4/15/23

The big day of racing on Saturday at Laurel Park in Maryland includes four stakes races on the 11-race card headlined by the Federico Tesio Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles. Post time for Race 1 is 12:25 p.m. ET.

1. Hybrid Eclipse and Beth's Dream, Race 7

Race 8 is the $100,000 Heavenly Cause Stakes for fillies and mares at 1-mile. Both numberFire and Guaranteed Tip Sheet land on Hybrid Eclipse (7/2) as a win contender. The favorite Beth's Dream (2/1) and Pass the Champagne (5/2) are top win challengers.

Hybrid Eclipse has five wins with a second- and third-place finish in seven at Laurel Park. Award Wanted (6/1) has two wins and three thirds in six races at the distance. Pass the Champagne missed as the favorite last time out and usually performs well in her starts. Beth's Dream is unbeaten in three starts at the distance.

2. Pharoah's Baby Gyal and Crypto Mama, Race 9

Race 9 is the $125,000 Weber City Miss Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles. The numberFire data and GTS both like Pharoah's Baby Gyal (2/1) to win with the favorite Girl Trouble (8/5) a top challenger who is 9-for-9 finishing in-the-money.

Pharoah's Baby Gyal won her last race by more than 10 lengths and won three races at Laurel. Crypto Mama (5/2) is expected to hit the board and has done so in 6 of 7 races. Cats Inthe Timber (8/1) improved noticeably in his pair of previous second starts after a layoff like today.

3. Prince of Jericho and Eldest Son, Race 10

Race 10 is the $125,000 Federico Tesio Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles. The winner of the Tesio automatically receives a Preakness Stakes entry if the horse is nominated to the Triple Crown.

Summer Cause (6/1), Eldest Son (12/1) and Prince of Jericho (3/1) are the main win challengers, according to numberFire. GTS agrees with Prince of Jerico and Eldest Son.

Prince of Jericho finished in the money in 6 of 6 starts and breaks from the outside No. 9 post. Coffeewithchris (5/2) makes his seventh straight stakes start. He's won three of his last four races and rides the hot rail. Circling the Drain's (8/1) last race was better than the finish running a similar time despite some in-race troubles. Eldest Son (12/1) won his last race and could really bump up his performance in his second start after a layoff.
