NBA Finals Best Bet
The odds make one thing clear, which you probably already knew — the league is incredibly top-heavy right now and there's no real hope of an actual long-shot championship win. The jump in odds from the No. 10 Cavaliers (+2700) to the No. 11 Pelicans (+4500) really highlights this.
But that doesn't mean you only want to focus your bets on the teams at the tippy-top.
A team with +1500 odds only need to have better than a 6.3% chance of winning the championship to be a valuable bet. This is the best price that's been available on the team all season. The markets may be overreacting to a key injury while they're still fighting for a playoff spot.
This is the perfect time to bet the Golden State Warriors.
Does it hurt that they're missing Steph Curry while still fighting for a playoff spot? Of course, and I'll grant you that they've been terrible with Steph sidelined (-4.3 net rating). They've also happened to play a pretty tough schedule in games without the two-time MVP this year, and a few blowouts have really skewed those numbers. They still hold Steph-less wins over the Memphis Grizzlies (by 14) and two over the Portland Trail Blazers, while they've taken care of most of their lesser opponents.
I have full confidence that they make the playoffs, and when we're betting a team to win the championship we really don't care about seeding. They might have to play the Denver Nuggets or Phoenix Suns in the first round? Well to reach the Finals those are teams you'll need to get past anyway.
I'm not saying they should be considered favorites to win the championship or anything, but at +1500 it's hard to deny that the value is there.
