Isaiah Wong 2023 NBA Draft Profile (Combine Results, Measurements and Scouting Report for Miami Leader)
Updated:
Miami guard Isaiah Wong enters the 2023 NBA Draft as one of the more underrated prospects available. Boasting great handles along with an ability to create his own shot and quick hands on defense, the potential is there for Wong to become a star at the next level.
Here's everything you need to know about Isaiah Wong before the 2023 NBA Draft.
Isaiah Wong Scouting Report and Draft Prediction
Isaiah Wong is one of the more traditional shooting guards in this draft class as he relies on a deep arsenal of moves to be a productive scorer. He can run the offense at times but is better suited as a player to get the ball to in isolation. That's when Wong is at his best, as he is capable of juking out defenders and scoring buckets while also easily getting back to position himself well on defense.
Wong leaned on those traits to put up 16.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists across 33.4 minutes per game in his final season at Miami. He notably shot 38.4% from three-point range, which was his best mark in four years as a Hurricane. Scoring over 15.0 points per game for three straight seasons in an ACC filled with talented prospects is worth taking note of, as it means Wong can hold his own.
There is no such thing as a perfect prospect, though, as Wong didn't get to the free throw as often as a scoring guard usually does at the college level. He avoids contact at times and that could be a cause for concern as his smaller frame (178.4 pounds) already puts him at a disadvantage against NBA defenders. Building muscle in the weight room could go a long way in Wong's development.
Overall, Wong has the foundation needed to be a backup guard right away and could turn into a starting option down the road if placed with the right coaching staff. The Charlotte Hornets stick out as a potential landing spot in the second round as they finished with the fourth-lowest amount of bench points scored last year. Wong's willingness to shoot the ball could be a great help in that area.
Prediction: Charlotte Hornets (Round 2, 34th overall)
