5 Immediate Trades to Make in Fantasy Football Week 9

Heading into Week 9 of the fantasy football season, managers have solid grasp on their rosters and which holes need to be filled. Exploring trades is one way to improve your lineup, either by buying low on someone underperforming or selling high in order to bolster your depth.

Week 9 also brings a bye for six different franchises. Bye weeks can create a tricky roster construct for managers and may be the best opportunity to take advantage of a buy-low situation.

With that in mind, here are three players to trade for (and two to trade away) in Week 9.

Fantasy Football Week 9 Trades

1. Trade For: D'Onta Foreman, RB, Carolina Panthers

It didn't take long, but a new pecking order in the Carolina Panthers backfield has already taken shape after Christian McCaffrey's trade. This is D'Onta Foreman's (sorry Chuba Hubbard), and his alone. Foreman exploded for 31.8 PPR points in Week 8 in a game he rushed 26 times for 118 yards and 3 TDs. Yes, the three scores inflates his value and this is the very high end of the scale, but back-to-back weeks with at least 17 touches prove the volume projects a very safe floor.

2. Trade Away: Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons

Tyler Allgeier put up the best fantasy performance of his young career in Week 8. The rookie back tallied 17.5 PPR points for an RB13 finish thanks to 17 touches, 85 yards from scrimmage and 1 score. The only issue? Corrdarrelle Patterson is on the mend. Allgeier's fill-in duties have been a nice fantasy story, but the plot is coming to a quick end. Even if Patterson isn't able to suit up in Week 9, there's no better time to take advantage of Allgeier's value. His 2.79 yards per rush attempt leave a lot to be desired, and unless he's able to recreate a receiving day (3 catches, 46 yards, 1 TD) like he did in Week 9, that value has a scary floor.

3. Trade For: Brandin Cooks, WR, Houston Texans

It's officially trade season. Seriously, the real NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, and that means some fantasy relevant playmakers could be on the move. Houston Texans wideout Brandin Cooks is in that group. Week 8 could be the last time Cooks ever wears a Texans jersey, and that's the exact change of scenery he needs. The veteran ranks just WR44 in PPR formats and hasn't held any consistency. A new team likely indicates heading to a WR-needy team, and one willing to feed him targets. It's all speculation, but I love the idea of taking a chance on this. And, even if Cooks isn't traded, he still commands 22.8% of the Texans target share. The 1 TD has prevented Cooks' from reaching his safe WR2/FLEX floor, but leading the team in red zone targets should end that trend soon.

4. Trade Away: Leonard Fournette, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Leonard Fournette continues to salvage fantasy performances with a knack of finding the end zone. While his RB8 rating in fantasy indicates that game plan has worked so far, that's not a good feeling for fantasy managers. Just take a look at his game log. The veteran back hasn't surpassed 11 touches in back-to-back weeks. Not known as a pass-catcher, Fournette's tallied just 43 rushing yards since Week 7. All while rookie Rachaad White upped his touches to at least 8 in each of the past five weeks. Toss away the TD-needy Fournette for a running back or WR with bigger workloads.

5. Trade For: Davante Adams, WR, Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders got shutout in Week 8, and that meant a dismal fantasy performance from Davante Adams. Adams was targeted just 5 times, and hauled in 1 reception for 3 yards. All while his Raiders' team continues a free fall at 2-5 on the young campaign. The team's offense has been rather lackluster (at least compared to preseason expectations) and ranks just 17th in passing yards per game, and 16th in yards per game. This trade is all about getting a fellow fantasy manager to overreact, but it's worth pursuing if you can. Adams still retains an impressive 28.7% target share and has found the end zone five different times.
