Patriots Week 1 Opponent for 2023 Season
The New England Patriots' Week 1 matchup for the 2023 campaign will be at home against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are coming off a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
Patriots' 2023 Strength of Schedule
According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Patriots have the hardest schedule in the NFL for the 2023-24 campaign. This is based on the projected win totals of New England's opponents for the upcoming season. The Patriots will face a tall task given their upcoming slate, as just two teams (Chiefs, Bengals) made the playoffs last year with a top-10 schedule in terms of difficulty.
The Patriots' 2023-24 opponents went a combined 127-107-3 last season. They'll face a quartet of teams in the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Buffalo Bills that won at least 12 games during the 2022-23 campaign.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Patriots at 7.5 wins, with -122 on the over and +100 on the under. New England has only finished with fewer than 7.5 wins twice in the previous 27 seasons.
Even though the over is favored on the Patriots' win total, I don't see them hitting the mark. They only won eight games in 2022 and now they have to do the same while dealing with the hardest schedule in the NFL. Outside of games against teams like the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Commanders, the Patriots will likely be playing as the underdog more often than not. At the end of the day, it's too much of an uphill battle.
Bet – Patriots: Under 7.5 Wins (+100)
In the Super Bowl market, the Patriots currently are tied (with the New York Giants and Denver Broncos) for the 18th-best odds at +4500. Those odds are the worst among AFC East teams as well as the sixth-worst in the AFC.
