Fair Grounds Horse Racing Picks Including KY Derby Prep Louisiana Derby for Saturday 3/25/23
Updated:
The Fair Grounds meet continues Saturday with Championship Series races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby and Road to the Kentucky Oaks. Eight stakes races are featured, headlined by the Louisiana Derby - a Kentucky Derby prep race. Post time to start the day is 1 p.m. ET.
As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather and keep an eye on the track conditions.
(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 12 is the $1 million Louisiana Derby for 3-year-olds at 1 3/16 miles. This is a Kentucky Derby Championship Series race with the top 5 finishers awarded qualifying points (100-40-30-20-10). The numberFire data picks the favorite Instant Coffee (2/1) ahead of Sun Thunder (5/1). Instant Coffee is the deserving favorite and win contender. But HRN rates Kinsbarns (6/1) a top win contender in his stakes debut, along with Disarm (10/1) and Cagliostro (15/1). Also, Tapit's Conquest (10/1) is one of three Brad Cox-trained runners in the field and Cox has won all three KY Derby prep races at Fair Grounds thus far. He was shorter odds when finishing third in the Risen Star Stakes behind runner-up Sun Thunder.
