DJ Moore Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Will His Quarterback Play Improve?)
Updated:
DJ Moore has quietly been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the NFL over the last three years. He has posted three straight 1,100-yard seasons despite playing with subpar quarterbacks like Cam Newton and Sam Darnold. Moore finished as the No. 18 WR in fantasy football in 2021.
With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Moore smack dab in the middle of WR2 territory mark once again in fantasy football rankings. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the 16th wide receiver off of the board and as a mid fourth round selection.
DJ Moore Fantasy Football Outlook
DJ Moore does not get the recognition he deserves from a fantasy football perspective. This is a player that has finished as a reliable WR2 for three years in a row. Maybe the lack of respect comes from the fact that he is stuck on a underwhelming offense or the fact that he does not get into the end zone very often. No matter what it is, it hasn't kept fantasy managers that have drafted him in the past from being happy with their decision.
What sticks out about Moore is that he has a high floor. He was one of just 11 WRs to run a route on at least 90% of their team's drop-backs and ranked seventh in target rate per route run (25%). If quarterback Baker Mayfield wins the starting gig, everything could change for Moore. Mayfield has proven that he can support multiple fantasy weapons in the past. In fact, veteran Jarvis Landry finished as the WR12 in PPR-scoring leagues in 2019 as Mayfield's go-to target in Cleveland.
Mayfield's 4.8% career touchdown percentage also shines in comparison to Darnold (3.3%) and Newton (4.3%). That means Moore may finally be able to break through in the red zone. A healthy Christian McCaffrey in the backfield would allow for Moore to see less blanketed coverage and more one-on-one situations in the end zone. He'll win those more often than not.
DJ Moore Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook expect Moore to finish in the middle of the pack. He's 11th to lead the NFL in receiving yards (+3000), which is exactly where he finished the 2021 season at with 1,157 yards. He is also 24th to lead the NFL in receiving touchdowns (+5000). That is likely due to the fact the Moore has never logged more than 4 touchdowns in one campaign. When taking his career averages into account (4.8 receptions per game, 14.3-yard average), it's a safe bet to say Moore will reach the 1,100-yard for the fourth year in a row if he stays healthy.
Is DJ Moore a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
When it comes down to it, is Moore someone to target in the early rounds? Definitely. He's the No. 14 wide receiver in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings, and is a sneaky WR1 candidate for fantasy managers prioritizing the RB position.
Moore signed a three-year extension with Carolina in the offseason and is coming off a season in which he saw a career-high 168 targets. That ranked as the sixth-highest mark in the NFL. Volume is king in fantasy football and Moore's production has always come from volume. Expect more of the same in 2022.
