Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Friday 7/29/22
Updated:
Starting at 7:00 p.m. ET, we have 8 races Friday at Del Mar, "Where the Turf meets the Surf."
As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.
(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).
Del Mar Betting
According to numberFire Racing's projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.
1. Little Rachel and Seven Sisters, Race 5
FanDuel Racing Odds: 2/1 and 4/1

Race 5 is a Claiming race for fillies and mares sprinting 6 furlongs. A marginal group of 10 runners, and Little Rachel (2/1) is the favorite and top pick according to numberFire's data followed by Seven Sisters (4/1).
Little Rachel is ridden by leading jockey Juan Hernandez. Her speed figures are above par for this level, and plenty of pace in this race for her closing style to take over.
Seven Sisters won here twice last summer and returns for her first race since January. She's one of a handful of runners who will be running up front and pushing the pace.
2. Leggs Galore and Twilight Gleaming
FanDuel Racing Odds: 8/5 and 9/5

Race 6 is the $100K Daisycutter Handicap for fillies and mares sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf. The numberFire algorithym picks the locally-based favorite and class of the field Leggs Galore (8/5) with European runners She's So Nice (8/1) and Royal Address (3/1) projected to hit the board.
Royal Address can save ground from the rail and try to close against the two speed runners, Leggs Galore and Twilight Gleaming (9/5), who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last November at Del Mar.
Little money to be made on the two favorites, but they will be popular exacta bets.
3. Race Judicata and She's a Joker, Race 7
FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 4/1

Race 7 is an Allowance race for state-bred fillies and mares going 1-mile. Another favorite is projected to win by numberFire's data with Race Judicata (3/1) on top of Smoothlikebuttah (6/1) and Roses R Blue (8/1).
Race Judicata has a pair of runner-up finishes in May, and improved speed figures her last three races to handle these with similar effort. Jockey Jessica Pyfer rides for EPO leading trainer Phil D'Amato, and she has a win and runner-up finish in just three starts at this Del Mar meet.
She's a Joker (4/1) is one to include as she stretches out from back-to-back turf sprint wins vs. maidens and Cal-bred's.
