Dawson Knox Fantasy Outlook & Injury Update 2022 (Can He Take Another Leap?)
Updated:
Dawson Knox enters the 2022 NFL season following a breakout campaign last year. The Buffalo Bills tight end set new career-highs across the board, helping him end the fantasy season as the TE11 in PPR formats.
The Bills consistently have one of the league's best offense; a trend that should continue this fall. However, a nagging injury sustained earlier this offseason has some fantasy managers wondering if it'll prevent him from taking another step in his fourth NFL season.
Dawson Knox Fantasy Football Outlook
Playing 15 games for the Bills, Knox saw 71 targets thrown his way. He ended up catching 49 of those passes (69.0%), converting them into 587 receiving yards and nine touchdowns — only one behind wideout Stefon Diggs for the team lead.
The fact that almost one of every five balls caught by Knox last year resulted in a TD is extremely encouraging. He also showed better ball security, dropping only 5.6% of his targets comapred to 20.0% and 9.1% in his first two seasons.
Even though Knox is expected to remain the Bills' No. 1 TE, he does have some additional competition this fall. Buffalo signed veteran tight end O.J. Howard to a one-year contract this offseason and even though he isn't as offensively talented as Knox, he's still proven with 59 career games and a 66.1% catch rate under his belt.
Even with the added competition, Knox clearly has a good relationship with quarterback Josh Allen and should remain a primary target. Barring any injuries, the former Mississippi product's fantasy outlook looks promising.
Dawson Knox Injury Update
As mentioned before, Knox missed some time during June's organized team activities with a minor undisclosed injury. Fortunately, there haven't been any updates since then — which is always a good thing — as he's been a full participant during training camp, even catching touchdown passes.
Regardless, it's important to keep in mind that Knox has yet to play a full NFL season. Various injuries have forced him to miss an average of 2.3 games in his first three campaigns. Although that isn't a huge amount, it's something to keep in mind if you plan to roster him.
Dawson Knox Projections
Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are quite low on Knox. He's available at just +7500 odds (T-No. 38) to be the league's receiving TDs leader this fall, however, he isn't even listed when it comes to receiving yards totals.
Is Dawson Knox a Good Fantasy Football Pick?
Knox was nearly a top-10 tight end last season and if he can continue taking steps forward, he should be among the best in 2022. Allen is one of the NFL's best quarterbacks and playing with him won't only continue paying off for Knox, but fantasy managers as well.
As far as The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings go, Knox slots in as the TE12. Fantasy Pros also lists his average draft position of 96.3, making him a player that likely won't be on the board beyond Round 8 in 12-team leagues.
