Dark Horse Picks to Win 2023 Masters Tournament on FanDuel Sportsbook

Weather also will be a factor with rain and scattered thunderstorms in the forecast including a 50-80% chance or rain on both Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will range from 80s on Thursday to 50s on Saturday.

Following wins by dark horse picks Max Homa in the Farmers Insurance Open and Adam Svensson (150/1) in the RSM Classic, there are opportunities to cash in on other players behind the leading favorites. That includes for a top-10 or top-20 finish like dark horse Jason Day at The PLAYERS Championship or top-5 finish by Tommy Fleetwood (T-3) at the Valspar Championship.

Last year, 11 players opened at 20/1 odds or shorter to win the Masters and green jacket. This year, just five players fit that odds profile - defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler (+750), Rory McIlroy (+750), Jon Rahm (+850), wire-to-wire 2015 Masters champion and face of FanDuel Jordan Spieth (+1700) and Patrick Cantlay (+1900).

Beyond the favorites, there are plenty of capable longshots and dark horses that could make a run at the leaderboard and come away with a higher finish or victory on Sunday. After all, did you see Kurt Kitayama win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at 220/1 odds or greater?

But with course history at Augusta National being more predictive than any other course on Tour, let's take a shot at some long shots and dark horses who have had some success at The Masters.

1. Xander Schauffele (+2900)

Schauffele missed the cut here last year, but finished T-3 in 2021 and T-2 in 2019 in his second Masters start. The 29-year-old Las Vegas resident is capable of hitting the jackpot this year with proven stats profiles in Tee-to-Green, Par-4 scoring from 450+ yards and Par-5 scoring. His best stats over his last 36 rounds are top 5-16 in this field in Approach, Short Game and Putting. His Good Drives and Greens-in-Regulation stats remain solid along with Sand saves and Scrambling. He's a very capable dark horse outside of 25/1.

2. Jason Day (+2900)

Day finished top-25 or better here four straight years from 2016-2019, including T-5 in 2019. He also finished 2nd here in his debut. Day's game is back to an elite level he once achieved as the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world. The 35-year-old major champion and 12-time PGA Tour winner ranks top-5 in Strokes Gained Total over his last 36 rounds with top-10 stats in Tee-to-Green, Around the Green, Short Game and Putting, and solid stats in Ball Striking and Approach. Day has been playing and performing at a high-level throughout 2023 with six-straight top-20 finishes including four top-10's with one at comp course Riviera. A win, top-10 finish and bet as top Aussie finisher over Cam Smith are worth a shot.

3. Tommy Fleetwood (+7000)

Fleetwood has made four straight cuts at the Masters with three top-20 finishes. His Short Game and Around the Green stats are elite over his last 36 rounds, and he's top-20 in Tee-to-Green and Putting. That helped him finish T-3 at Valspar and T-27 at The Players Championship last month after starting Sunday T-4. He also finished top-20 at comp course Riviera in Feb. Tommy Boy is one of just four players who are top-25 in Approaches and Around the Green so far this season, joining Day. Combined with solid driving, top-10 stats in Par 5 efficiency this year and projected wet conditions at times, the 32-year-old Englishman looks ready for his best finish at the Masters Tournament, and a top-10 result also returns 5/1 on your money.
