Commanders Provide Update on J.D. McKissic's Neck Injury
Updated:
The Washington Commanders' backfield has been a major source of attention in recent weeks as the team splits lead duties between Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson Jr. However, it was J.D. McKissic who became the focus this week in practice after popping up on the injury report with a neck problem.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera provided an update on the issue at Friday's practice.
J.D. McKissic Injury Update
Rivera told reporters that McKissic will see (or has already seen) a specialist for his neck injury. The head coach added that the team is making sure to exercise "caution" as the veteran looks to get back on the field.
This certainly is concerning news. It appears McKissic's issue could be more than just something minor after sitting out practice this week. He's already been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Minnesota Vikings, but this update prompts legitimate concern about his health moving forward.
McKissic has served in his usual pass-catching role for the Commanders in 2022. He's drawn 40 targets over the first eight games, which he's converted into 27 receptions and 173 yards.
His absence in Week 9 will likely put more of the pass-catching load on Gibson. Robinson could also see a slight uptick in that area even though he's primarily been deployed as a ground threat in 2022.
Washington heads into Sunday's contest against Minnesota as 3-point home underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
