5 Greatest Quarterbacks in Colts History

Last season, the Indianapolis Colts were put in a position where they had uncertainty at quarterback, which was not a position fans were accustomed to being in. The Colts have been lucky to have so many terrific passers in the franchise's history, both in Baltimore and Indianapolis.

While it can be tough to rank their best, let's do just that. These are the five greatest quarterbacks in Colts franchise history.

5. Jim Harbaugh (1994-97)

Despite only playing on the Colts for four seasons, Harbaugh has done enough to make the list. He passed for 8,705 yards with 49 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. This puts him seventh on the Colts all-time passing list, and he even was voted to a Pro Bowl during his time in Indianapolis.

4. Bert Jones (1973-81)

The 1976 MVP is often overlooked in the Colts' franchise history, but make no mistake, he is among the greats. Johnny Unitas was a tough act to follow, but Bert Jones led his team to a 46-46 record over nine seasons, passing for 17,663 yards and 122 interceptions. He added another 14 touchdowns on the ground.

3. Andrew Luck (2012-18)

It's unfortunate that Andrew Luck will be remembered by many by his surprise retirement last preseason, leaving his team high and dry. The situation is that the team did not put him in a place to succeed early in his career, taking shot after shot. This led to him battling injuries over and over. Luck was outstanding when healthy, averaging a franchise-high 275.2 passing yards per game. He threw 171 touchdowns to 83 interceptions, going 53-33 in his shortened career.

2. Johnny Unitas (1956-72)

Not only is Johnny Unitas one of the best Colts quarterbacks, he is among the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. The Hall of Fame quarterback is a three-time MVP, 10-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion. He ranks second all-time in Colts passing yards (39,768) and passing touchdowns (287), while adding another 1,778 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground.

1. Peyton Manning (1998-2010)

Was there any doubt that "The Sheriff" would take the top spot? Peyton Manning completed 64.9 percent of his passes for a franchise-high 54,828 yards and 399 touchdowns to 198 interceptions. There isn't much Manning hadn't done in his career, making him one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
