Women's World Cup Betting: Saturday Brings Us a Pair of Quarterfinal Matchups

We've seen two thrilling quarterfinal matches already, and we'll get two more on Saturday. The favorites heading into this round will face an up-start underdog, and the other match will be between two teams who will like their chances of winning it all.
Here are the games, with all Women's World Cup odds from FanDuel Sportsbook:
Time (Eastern) | Home | Away |
|---|---|---|
| 3:00 AM | Australia (+138) | France (-170) |
| 6:30 AM | England (-500) | Colombia (+360) |
Australia vs. France
With the benefit of home-field advantage, Australia was considered one of the favorites heading into the tournament.
That was thrown for a loop when Sam Kerr, their best player, was announced to be injured just before the first match. They squeaked out a win in their opening game against Ireland before being upset by Nigeria in the second game.
They've really found their feet in the last two games, first demolishing Canada, 4-0, and then beating Denmark, 2-0, in the Round of 16. They won the expected goal (xG) battle in these two matches by a combined 3.9 to 1.3, per FBRef.
An encouraging thing for the Aussies was that Kerr was able to make a brief cameo appearance off the bench last match. The game was already 2-0, so it wasn't like they were pushing for a goal -- and maybe if the game was closer she would have gotten more than 10 minutes.
Similar to Australia, France are in great goalscoring form over their last two games. They've netted 10 goals in games against Morocco and Panama.
It was a comprehensive demolition of Morocco, as they allowed only 0.3 expected goals. It helped getting captain Wendie Renard back in defense. Renard is a strong center-back who's one of the best in the world at her position.
France have had two dangerous goal-scorers in this tournament. Kadidiatou Diani has four goals, one off the tournament lead, and Eugenie Le Sommer has added three. Their attack, which has created 6.6 xG over the last two matches, will likely overwhelm Australia.
A bet on France to win and Le Sommer to score as a Same Game Parlay pays out at +253 odds -- or you could use Diani as the goal-scorer for that bet and get +295. Another way to play this match is taking +125 on over 2.5 goals. With how many goals have been going in for these teams of late, we could see fireworks.
England vs. Colombia
England were a team that many fancied to go deep. Outside of one match, it's safe to say they've been a bit disappointing, especially in attack.
England beat China 6-1 in the final game of the group stage. Other than that, they've scored two goals in the tournament. They got past Nigeria by the skin of their teeth, winning a penalty shootout after losing the xG battle 1.2-0.9.
They will be without a key player, as Lauren James saw a red card last match and will be suspended. She has three goals in the tournament, with the rest of the team scoring just five total.
The English are still significant favorites over Colombia, the most surprising team to make the quarterfinals. Colombia started the tournament with two shocking wins over South Korea and Germany, which was enough to win the group. That set up a favorable matchup against Jamaica in the Round of 16, and they were the first team to be able to find the back of the net against Jamaica.
Colombia relied on 18-year-old Linda Caicedo as a goal-scorer in their first two games, and the talented youngster will be someone to keep an eye on as a potential winner of the Best Young Player award.
As good of a story as Colombia have been, they are a bit overmatched against England. Colombia have rode their luck in this tournament, with a -1.1 xG differential overall.
Even without James in the team, England should be able to win this game. They may have a problem scoring multiple goals, though, and we can play this match to be a low-scoring bout.
England to win exactly 1-0 is listed at +360, which is one of the best bets on the board in my eyes. You'll get a much better number on that than on a Same Game Parlay of England to win and under 2.5 goals, which has odds of -116.
