Triple-A Speed Threat Joins Cardinals in September Roster Expansion
Updated:
The St. Louis Cardinals wrapped up the month of August with another victory, their 22nd of the month. This strong 22-7 record over the past month has propelled St. Louis to a commanding 6.0-game lead in the NL Central standings.
As the MLB rolls into the final month of the regular season, rosters around the league expand to 28 players. The Cardinals are using this opportunity to get a bit more dynamic on the base paths and will promote a Triple-A speed threat, outfielder Ben DeLuzio.
Cardinals Roster News
DeLuzio has been nothing short of dynamic running the bases in 2022. He's racked up a team-leading 30 steals in 94 games with Triple-A Memphis. Those 30 stolen bases also rank fifth in the entire International League.
This sort of speed threat only adds to a St. Louis offense that ranks ninth in stolen bases (79) and scores the fourth-most runs in baseball (4.92 per game).
DeLuzio is no slouch at the plate, either. The 28-year-old outfielder slashes .278/.353/.429 and is a career .292/.361/.462 in three seasons at Triple-A. The former third round draft pick will be making his MLB debut as part of this call-up.
Things are looking bright in St. Louis as the franchise looks to secure their first division title since 2019. That 2019 team made it all the way to the NLCS. For now, the Cardinals hold +2200 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
