Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis enters the 2023 NBA Draft as one of the more seasoned prospects available. After impressing fans for four years with the Hoosiers, only time will tell if Jackson-Davis has more success at the NBA level.
Here's everything you need to know about Trayce Jackson-Davis before the 2023 NBA Draft.
Trayce Jackson-Davis Scouting Report and Draft Prediction
Jackson-Davis became known for his scoring during his Indiana tenure and his final campaign with the Hoosiers was no different. TJD finished his final college season averaging 20.9 points while shooting 58.1% from the field, playing a role in his winning the Karl Malone Award for the NCAA's top power forward.
Jackson-Davis possesses a non-stop motor that helps him be active on both ends of the court. He knows how to both attack and protect the rim, and is also a decent passer, averaging a career-high 4.0 assists per game as a senior.
His game isn't perfect, though. TJD isn't a shooter, only attempting a trio of three-pointers over four seasons. In other words, NBA teams won't have issues guarding him if he doesn't expand his scoring options. He's also one of the older players in the draft, meaning he may not have as much upside as other PF prospects.
I wouldn't mind the Detroit Pistons taking Jackson-Davis with the first pick in the second round. The Pistons struggled to score close to the rim in 2022-23, averaging just 46.4 points in the paint (No. 23 in NBA).
Although Detroit already has the big man quartet of James Wiseman, Isaiah Stewart, Marvin Bagley, and Jalen Duren, none of those players averaged more than 12.7 PPG last season. There's no guarantee that TJD will be any better, but his potential is well worth the risk.
Prediction: Detroit Pistons (Round 2, 31st overall)
