Trade Rumors Involving Chiefs and Big-Name Wide Receiver Continue to Swirl
Updated:
The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver room has taken a hit this offseason with the departures of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman. These veteran losses have prompted speculation about a potential trade to boost this young corps.
Well, rumors involving Kansas City and one big-name wideout aren't letting up.
According to Buffalo Bills sideline reporter Sal Capaccio, the Chiefs are the team being connected the most to current Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins. This buzz comes directly from the annual owners meetings, so it's clearly an idea that has traction among several high-ranking personnel around the league.
This is far from the first time Kansas City has been linked to Hopkins, who's expected to be dealt by the rebuilding Cardinals this offseason. The Chiefs' wide receiver group is currently slated to have Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore as featured options, despite both being relatively unproven so far in their young careers.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling does provide a veteran presence, but he's not anywhere close to the other WR1s in the NFL. Hopkins could slot into that role immediately, giving Mahomes an accomplished wideout who'd command significant attention from opposing defenses.
Hopkins' contract, plus Arizona's demands, are major hurdles in the way of a trade, however. It remains to be seen if concessions can be made on both fronts to get a deal done with the Chiefs.
