Top 12 Fantasy Football Defense Rankings for Week 6 (2022)

Defenses are usually just an afterthought in fantasy football. That's leaving points on the board though. Savvy fantasy managers will be scouring the waiver wire to capitalize on the best defensive matchups each and every week.

With that in mind, here are the top 12 fantasy football defenses for Week 6 of the 2022 NFL season.

The pairing of a turnover-happy defense (the Jacksonville Jaguars) and a team that's already coughed up 11 on offense (the Indianapolis Colts) is the perfect recipe for a good fantasy performance. Matt Ryan's thrown more interceptions (7) than TDs (5) in five games and the offense has committed at least 2 turnovers in every contest this year. That's a trend that doesn't just disappear. What's even more concerning is Indy's stats on situational downs. They rank 24th in third down percentage (36.2%) and 28th in the red zone (40%). Jacksonville's defense won't be staying on the field for long periods of time, and when they do, look for a turnover or two.

3. Los Angeles Rams (vs CAR)

The Los Angeles Rams have not looked like the Super Bowl-winning defense they were a year ago. LA ranks just 20th in fantasy points on the year but has an opportunity to feast on a Carolina Panthers squad reeling from the loss of Baker Mayfield to injury and the firing of Matt Rhule. Who knows which Panthers team will show up on Sunday? Carolina has 7 giveaways while allowing 17 sacks through the first five weeks, and those are two figures that LA's defense will take advantage of in Week 6.

1. San Francisco 49ers (at ATL)

San Francisco is the only team giving the Buffalo Bills a run for their money as the best fantasy defense in football. The 49ers' defense actually leads the league in fantasy points and produces downright intimidating stats. This includes the fewest yards and points in the NFL while racking up a league-high 21 sacks. Expect them to continue to build on those numbers against the Falcons in Week 6, as Atlanta ranks 25th in total yards and struggles passing the ball with Marcus Mariota.
