Santa Anita Horse Racing Picks for Sunday 4/2/23

The Santa Anita Classic Meet continues Sunday at "The Great Race Place" with 9 races and post time at 4:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. local.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire horse racing projections, these are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

1. Earls Rock and Exaulted, Race 7

Race 7 is the $100,000 Grade 3 American Stakes for older horses at 1-mile on the turf. The numberFire data projects the favorites Du Jour (9/5) and Earls Rock (8/5) to decide the race on top with Irideo (4/1) to hit the board.

Du Jour is conditioned by leading trainer Bob Baffert with top jockey Frankie Dettori riding. He's finished second in both graded stakes starts this year including a Grade 1 a month ago with a career-best 110 speed figure.

Earls Rock breaks from the rail in a field of six with top turf rider Umberto Rispoli riding for another EPO trainer Phil D'Amato. He rallied from off the pace to edge Du Jour by a nose for the win here in Feb. in a Grade 3 race.

Exaulted (4/1) is 2-for-2 this year and also finished in-the-money previously in three straight graded stakes races on this turf course. The meets top jockey Juan Hernandez rides.

2. Everlys Girl and Classical Romance, Race 8

Race 8 is a Starter Allowance for older fillies and mares at 1-mile. The numberFire algorithm picks longshot Classical Romance (15/1) to win ahead of Myfavoritedaughter (5/1) and Charlotte Harbor (4/1).

Classical Romance won an Allowance race here last year, and has run against better in graded stakes races without hitting the board.

Everlys Girl (4/1) finished runner-up here a month ago and won at this level last fall with a 95 speed figure. That repeat is good enough to win against this group.

3. Lucky for You and and Sareeha, Race 9

Race 9 is a Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares at 1-mile on the turf. The numerFire data along with GTS have the favorite Sareeha (5/2) winnning a close finish against Lucky for You (3/1), who has Juan Hernandez riding for Bob Baffert.

Debut runner Princess of Time (12/1) can outrun these odds at first asking.
