3 Most Likely Starting Quarterbacks for the Saints in 2023

Updated:

For the third year in a row since Drew Brees retired, the New Orleans Saints are once again searching for a solution at quarterback. The likes of Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill have failed to adequately replace Brees, which means the Saints might be ready to go in a different direction this offseason.

With that in mind, here are the three most likely starting quarterback options for New Orleans in 2023.

Saints Starting Quarterback 2023

3. Taysom Hill

The Saints have been tinkering with Hill at quarterback for years now, so this could be the season they finally give him the job. He's been surprisingly effective whenever they've needed him to fill in under center, going 7-2 as a starter and completing 64.5 percent of his passes while making a big impact on the ground. He obviously knows New Orleans' offense well after spending five years in it, so if the team really committed to him at QB there's a chance it could work.

2. Jameis Winston

Winston is currently the only Saints quarterback under contract for 2023, which automatically gives him the inside track to the job. The former first-round pick has been dogged by injuries during his time with New Orleans, but he's been pretty effective when healthy, going 6-4 as a starter with a 60.9 percent completion rate and an 18:8 TD/INT ratio over the last two years combined. He's improved some of the turnover issues that plagued him earlier in his career and is still under 30, so he could be worth rolling the dice on in 2023.

1. Derek Carr

Carr met with the Saints earlier this week at the NFL Scouting Combine and is in need of a new home after parting ways with the Las Vegas Raiders. He would be the best option for New Orleans and would give the team a legitimate chance to contend in 2023, especially with the NFC South now wide open following Tom Brady's retirement. The only problem is that Carr has plenty of other suitors like the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, so there's no guarantee he ends up with NOLA.
