Saints' Asking Price for Alvin Kamara Trade Revealed

The NFL trade deadline is just a few days away and one big name that keeps being floated is running back Alvin Kamara. The New Orleans Saints are without a first-round pick in 2023, making the idea of dealing their best player intriguing. Acquiring the Pro Bowl talent certainly wouldn't be cheap, though.

The Saints are reportedly searching for a package similar to what the Carolina Panthers received in the shocking Christian McCaffrey deal. The Panthers sent their star RB to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a second-, third- and fourth-round pick in 2023 as well as a fifth-round pick in 2024.

On one side, this news shouldn't come as a major shock. Kamara's contract lines up with McCaffrey's in the sense that he is only owed his base salary ($1 million) for the rest of the 2022 season. Any team that trades for him would essentially have him rostered on a series of one-year deals through 2025.

On the other side, Kamara's upside pales in comparison to that of McCaffrey. The 27-year-old has missed at least one game due to injury in each of the five seasons and has yet to score a touchdown in 2022. Of course, he still averages a stellar 103.1 yards from scrimmage per game in his career.

It'll be interesting to see if any RB-needy team can meet the Saints' expectations before Tuesday rolls around. The Philadelphia Eagles have been a rumored landing spot and do own both the Saints' and their own first-rounder next April. Never underestimate GM Howie Roseman's negotiating skills.

The Saints have odds set at +500 to make the NFL Playoffs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
