Romeo Doubs Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Can He Sneak Into Green Bay's Starting Lineup?)

Romeo Doubs Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Can He Sneak Into Green Bay's Starting Lineup?)

Updated:

With Davante Adams no longer in the picture, a lot of targets are up for grabs in Green Bay. Rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs could be the one to soak them up after posting 1,109 yards and 11 touchdowns on 80 receptions in his final college season.

With that being the case, it's no surprise to see Doubs on the cusp of being a highly rostered player in fantasy football rankings this year. His average draft position (ADP) has him going as the 74th wide receiver off the board and as a 17th-round selection (undrafted).

Romeo Doubs Fantasy Football Outlook

Doubs has an opportunity to be an early season waiver wire stud in leagues where he is going undrafted. His upside is undeniable when taking into consideration the lack of talent at the WR position for Green Bay. Allen Lazard projects to be the No. 1 option despite averaging only 34.5 receiving yards per game in his career. Meanwhile, Sammy Watkins and Randall Cobb are a pair of veterans past their prime. Rookie Christian Watson has also been sidelined with an injury during training camp. The door is open for Doubs to make an instant impact.

It's worth noting that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been talking up Doubs whenever he gets the chance to. The reigning MVP said the kid is making a "wow" play every day on the field. That shouldn't come as a major shock on Doubs' end considering he was praised throughout the draft process for his crisp route-running skills on deep passing plays. It should come as a major shock on Rodgers' end, though, because he seldom praises rookies. He has long stressed that earning trust goes a long way in putting together a dangerous NFL offense.

Doubs is the type of player fantasy managers can feel comfortable picking up with their final draft pick. In the best-case scenario, he starts off hot and becomes the go-to target on an offense that averaged 25.6 points per game in 2021 (T-No. 10 in NFL). In the worst case scenario, he puts together an underwhelming first few weeks and can be dropped for a waiver wire pickup. The risk here is almost nonexistent, yet the payoff could be huge.

Romeo Doubs Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook don't expect Doubs to make a major impact when compared to the elite wide receivers in the league. He isn't listed among the top 80 wide receivers in the odds to lead the NFL in receiving yards or touchdowns. However, Doubs is sixth to lead all rookies in receiving yards (+1000). Those odds are notably tied with Garrett Wilson and Skyy Moore. When taking Doubs college average of 14.8 yards per reception into account, he would need 47 receptions to reach the 700-yard mark as a rookie. That is certainly not an unrealistic goal with Rodgers slinging the ball in Green Bay.

Is Romeo Doubs a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

When it comes down to it, is Doubs someone to target in the later rounds? Definitely, but only if he's still on the board in the final few rounds. While Doubs doesn't crack the top 50 WRs in The Duel's PPR fantasy football rankings, he has a chance to outperform expectations.

Someone has to replace the production Adams put up in 2021 (123 receptions, 1,553 yards, 11 touchdowns). It's not going to be just one player, either. Doubs is a good a choice as anyone to sneak his way into the starting lineup.
