Reincarnate Kentucky Derby Horse Odds, History and Predictions (Big Longshot Fallen Off the Radar)

It's finally time to bet on the Kentucky Derby. In just a few short days, 20 of the world's top 3-year-old horses will participate in the 149th Run for the Roses and aim for eternal glory.

One big longshot getting disrespected a bit ahead of this race is Reincarnate. Here's everything you need to know about this Tim Yaktee-trained colt before he vies for the 2023 Kentucky Debry crown.

Reincarnate Kentucky Derby Odds and Post Position

Reincarnate currently owns 50-1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby after the post positions were announced on Monday. Reincarnate drew post position 7, and just outside of undefeated Kingsbarns (6) with both horses expected to push toward the front around the first turn at Churchill Downs.

Reincarnate Horse Trainer and Jockey

Reincarnate is trained by Tim Yakteen, who took over conditioning of the horse this year from Bob Baffert. Yakteen worked as an assistant for Baffert for many years, and he moved from Germany to Los Angeles after high school in the early 1980s. Tim's real first name is Haitham, and he's bringing his second and third horses to the 2023 Kentucky Derby with Reincarnate and Practical Move.

Reincarnate's jockey for the 2023 Kentucky Derby is John Velazquez, who rode him to third-place finishes in both the Rebel Stakes and Arkansas Derby. Velazquez has won the Derby and Run for the Roses three times with Animal Kingdom (2011), Always Dreaming (2017) and Authentic (2020).

Reincarnate Race History

Reincarnate has won 2-of-7 starts, and finished third in his two recent Road to the Kentucky Derby Championship Series prep races in the Arkansas Derby and Rebel Stakes.

Reincarnate Kentucky Derby Prediction and Pick

Reincarnate is a big longshot in the Derby, but he's better than some other runners in the race despite having the longest opening odds. Both his wins were at 1-mile, but he's still had quite good Equibase Speed Figures of 103, 100 and 99 in his last three races with the Rebel run over a sloppy (sealed) track.

I was higher on this horse even coming out of the Rebel Stakes, and his odds in the Arkansas Derby were just 7/2 and he finished fine, but still 5-lengths behind winner Angel of Empire. Still, he's being discounted too much at 50/1 odds on the opening line. He's a longshot to hit the board as well, but not completely out of the question. He'll be forwardly placed and still has to show he can improve enough to get the Derby distance.
