Ravens Get Concerning Rashod Bateman Injury Update After Week 4 Loss
Updated:
One of the most confusing parts of the Baltimore Ravens' Week 4 collapse was the absence of top wide receiver Rashod Bateman in the second half. Bateman briefly left the game due to some kind of injury, though he eventually came back. Then the second-year pro wasn't seen on the field at all after a drop in the third quarter, prompting questions about his performance impacting his playing time.
Now it's been revealed Bateman's absence was, in fact, injury-related.
Rashod Bateman Injury Update
Head coach John Harbaugh said Monday that Bateman is dealing with a mid-foot injury. This ailment explains why he wasn't on the field and clears up that his drop-filled performance wasn't the cause of his absence.
This news is certainly concerning, however. A foot problem is always a potential reason to worry for any player, especially wide receivers who need to cut and accelerate effectively. The fact Bateman was seen in a boot after the game doesn't calm Ravens fans' nerves, either.
Bateman's left foot injury could have a wide range of causes, though. It may be as minor as a contusion, or less severe like a grade 1 sprain. However, if it's something worse like a Lisfranc issue, then the wideout would be at a serious risk of missing significant time.
The second-year pro seems confident the injury won't be anything long-term, but his Week 5 status is up in the air at the very least.
Baltimore would love to have its top wideout at full strength with the Cincinnati Bengals up next on the schedule. Opening NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook project the Ravens as 3-point home favorites in their first divisional matchup of the season.
